She's usually in the mix (middle 300s).     Three hundreds between 310 and say 317 are usually pretty good for cheerin'.
  Thanks Mitlin!

Tuned in twice today and both times they were talking about the O's. Phil just bows and scrapes before Angelos.

Phil thoroughly enjoys proving he's the smartest guy in the room    ....   until Sal calls.    :)

They should just bring Sal in the studio to be the co-host.

Can you imagine?      :hysterical:     We'd have to merge this thread with "Must See TV".

For at least 2 years Phil claimed that Tyler Moore was a 'left handed power hitting 1st baseman' until Moore actually appeared in a major league game. Then he never mentioned it again.

What's the old saying?     "He may be wrong but he's never in doubt."     :)

Phil is apoplectic about strikeouts and always swinging away.     Wonder who he has in mind?    Desmond?      I missed the first 5 or 6 minutes of the show.

Harper has fallen into that trap the past couple of games too.  In fact last night the main offenders were Harper and Uggla.

At this point Desmond has been one of the better hitters overall.  Harper has not done anything other than that home run; irks me cause in the same game he had a chance with two on and no one out in the first and did not produce.  And of course all the strikeouts.

You can go down the list: Zimm, Uggla, Ramos, Lobaton, Escobar--they all have been bad other than Taylor.

Things will change--be patient.

Harper has as many hits as Taylor and has been on base more in fewer at bats, so how can Taylor have been good and Harper bad?

You are correct in that he has not been as bad as the others but he has not been driving in runs. That's his job. Expect more from him than a rookie.

In discussing first pitches thrown to Nationals' batters, Phil Wood observed:

1) Pitchers know to throw a slider to Desmond, since he'll swing at any first pitch

2) With regard to Nationals' batters staring at first-pitch strikes that come straight down the middle, thus falling behind in the count 0-1:
    a) Ted Williams would take the first pitch, to see how it was coming out of the pitcher's hand
    b) Ted Williams could do that... because he was Ted Williams. (He implied that none of the Nationals batters are Ted Williams.)

Phil Wood highly recommends for amateur players:

Wood is absolutely right about #1. Desmond swings like a wild man at many first pitches.

It isn't just Desmond. A lot of our guys either swing wildly at any pitch or they're like Zimm and will literally stare at dead red down the middle.

Its like as if we don't game plan at all for opposing Ps. You gotta be flexible in your approach.

Obviously Ted Williams had his own style, but that's because he was Ted freaking Williams. He could probably swing a bat with his feet and hit .300.

Uncle Ray was on Desi's plate discipline the other night.    It wasn't just his first pitch selections either.    Uncle Ray hinted that it's his whole approach.

No clue but he just said you can see Strasburg "wilting" in pressure situations so he definitely knows what's up

Of course the first question was from Sal albeit via email.
Wallace says Desmond will get better this year at SS--well I guess he has been so bad he must get better.
