I don't see that happening.

Maybe, maybe not.  I wouldn't underestimate Google's ability to sell at a loss in order to establish marketplace presence.  Worked just fine for Lexus and Microsoft.

That's if google sells it themselves.  Is that the plan or is the plan to make the OS available to other manufacturers to use, ala Android?

all of your points are taken, but you have to understand though....

there is just not enough here in ChromeOS, and especially in a computer like the one I have to warrant charging more than 150. there is no way this thing (CR-48) would be sold at a loss for 150. it can't possibly have cost that much to make.

I suppose they could up the specs to sell it for more. or other companies could add pointless shovelware to it.

but i honestly don't see any ChromeOS notebook selling for more than 200. I just don't.  not based on my experience with this CR-48.

Yet you can't find an atom netbook for less than $250.  I'm assuming the thing is running an atom chip, so I expect them to price it comparably.  Of course there is no "MS Tax" since ChromeOS should be free, but I still think they will try to price it at $250 at least.  I'm with you though, I think that would be too much.

atom netbooks also have like 250gb hard drives and such.

these ChromeOS notebooks won't have that kind of thing.

the CR-48 for example, has 16gb total.

That's a good point.  They could sell it as being really good at specific things instead of going the "jack of all trades, master of none" route that netbooks try for.

But that's flash/ssd, right?

Probably very cheap MLC NAND chips, like what you'd get in a USB thumb drive (which are grossly overpriced btw)

Right, but that doesn't strike what I said.  All SSDs are NOT created equal.

Oh I have no illusions about it being the best one out there, but it's quick, I don't use PDFs much, and I already have it installed as my secondary browser anyway, so why not?

I use it too, but it's funny when you get to a complex plot and it tells you that it can't render it so you should use Acrobat.

I'd love for it to be something like Lala.  Scan my library, link to what songs I already own, and allow me to stream from anywhere through a web app or smartphone app.  Then also allow me to purchase songs from the site, download a hard copy, but also remember my purchase and allow me to stream it as well, so I don't have to copy the actual file onto my device or burn a cd, etc.
