Good deal..... ONLY if he plays like he did last year.

Otherwise, not so much.

Can't you rent similar talent year to year for $8MM?

A lot of his value is in his defense and his efficient base runnning.  You have to hope he hits well enough to stay on the field to give you that defense (and gets on enough to run the bases).  he's done that twice in his career - 2008 and 2012.

Take a look at what he was hitting on July 22. They are paying him $24M for 10 good weeks. Too much, too soon.

No compensation. No bag of balls. No case of soda. No half eaten ham sandwich.

I understand the deal, I just don't understand why the Phillies would do that.

Can the Phillies trade Amaro for nothing?

Maybe they don't have to pay him termination pay.

ESPN is showing an exhibition game between Atlanta Broves and the Philadelphia Fillies at 1:05 pm today, if anyone wants to scout the division foes.

I blame Pete Rose and Ricky Henderson.  Had Lou Brock just had a better publicist, none of this would have happened.

I blame the WBC.  Too many minor leaguers and never wases who can't throw an effective brushback without hitting him, or at least his ego.

Even if it did not happen in the WBC, how do you know he would have been playing or taking batting practice when he was hit?

Even if he was not hit, he could have been strengthening his thumb rather than playing in the WBC.  he used his tendons then.

It is all the WBC's fault.

Derek Jeter won't play in anymore MLB spring training games. This is so the Yankees can back date his DL start date if necessary.

He will play in.minor league games in the mean time.

I can't wait until Kasten invites Giants fans to make the trek down from San Fran to watch games in LA.  Maybe he'll be nice enough to arrange charter buses.

Or maybe provide security so they don't get beaten to death.

See Mark Prior is making another comeback attempt with the Reds.

I desperately want Prior to get at least one more inning in the majors.

The Angels are experiencing one of the worst half innings I've seen in a while.  They're losing 7-0 in the second inning but that's just half of it.  The Rangers are hitting the ball all over the park and when the Angels do get to the balls, they're misplaying almost all of them.  They trying to pick off runners and the ball ends up in the outfield...or the dugout.  Bases are being stolen.

The Rangers are, literally, laughing on the bases.

And Derek Lowe is pitching for the Rangers so you know the Angels are coming back.
