He's going to be so good for us in 2016. Hopefully we still have some other talent by that point.

Werth and Zim will still be on the roster :stir:

Prospect Hot Sheet (Aug. 1)

4. Lucas Giolito, rhp, Nationals

lucas-giolito-2014-mugTeam: low Class A Hagerstown (South Atlantic)
Age: 19
Why He’s Here: 2-0, 0.00, 12 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 13 SO, 1 BB

The Scoop: Ranking among the unofficial leaders for best stuff in the minors, Giolito had his good command this week and the results were overwhelming. He put up 13 zeroes over two starts and allowed just three singles and one walk in the process. He’s given up three or fewer earned runs in nine of his last 10 starts and is third in the Nationals system in punchouts despite pitching roughly 30 innings fewer than the pitchers in the Nos. 1 and 2 spots, Austin Voth and John Simms.

Yes, he went 5 scoreless tonite and get this....did it with two pitches. He threw zero Curveballs. None. Just FB/Change. Disn 't throw his best pitch! He's either horribly bored or felt bad for Delmarva, taking the mound with a 7 run lead in the 1st. First full season back from TJ? Wait till he 's a couple of seasons removed and at full strength. Talk about living up to the hype. Holy crap!

He knows he's on an innings limit and isn't going to get past Single A. He's working on developing his change and making sure it comes out of the same arm slot as his fastball.

He's either horribly bored or felt bad for Delmarva,

Actually, the coaching staff want him to work on his changeup and focus on bringing it up to the level of his fastball and curveball so he will have three killer pitches. So this summer he's been getting more and more focused on pitching the changeup. It's all about becoming a better player, not boredom. :)

Maybe, but I think it's more likely he gets shut down in the next month and starts next season at Potomac with a promotion to Double A at the break.

Big upside and looking good. He did get whacked a bit at the future stars game in Minneapolis. It's an hour to Hagerstown and I've seen him twice this year. Still has a way to go. He'll be ready when it comes time to resign one of our current starters which we won't do for $ reasons if they're all still "top notch". If they all go well (unlikely) we can't afford to resign them but likely someone or two of them will fade.

So ETA 2017, yes? High A with a promotion to AA next year, AA and AAA in 2016, rotation in 2017.

I could see him getting a call up to the bigs in 2016 for a handful of starts due to injury.

If he has nothing left to prove by June 2016, he will be here.
