Bit of an unfortunate outing now, after 4 innings, 6 hits (1 HR) with only 1 more K to escape a jam. 4 ER

Not a horrible first outing for Ray.  Once he regains a rhythm, adjusts to the league, and builds up stamina he should cut down on the hits allowed, the most important thing for these first few outings is the control and command of his pitches.  1 walk and 5 strikeouts is a good sign.

this.

good to see him back.  that's the most important thing.  then when he builds stamina and gets back into his comfort zone, we can worry about results.

i think he's going to be pretty good.

I thought I read somewhere earlier that he would get his feet wet at Hagerstown before making the jump to Potomac.

High A is a pretty big leap from extended spring training. Might have been better for a 20 year old to get a little confidence and get into a flow in Hagerstown before the bump. Hopefully his confidence isn't shook by a couple bad outings, and he can turn it around.

Number 4 or 5 starter for the Nats in 2014? (Wow...that would be depth)

Maybe towards the end of the year, but Ray does still have a ways to go. He still hasn't started a season at a full season affiliate. Next year, assuming he does at Harrisburg will be a big year for him. Since he doesn't have overpowering stuff, he's probably not a quick riser. Probably all of 2013 at Harrisburg, and half a year at Syracuse before even considering him coming up.

Starting to look like he maybe should have gone to Arkansas instead of the minors.

Money + paid education (likely) versus college and maybe even less money? I'll take option A. Better to fool them early and make money versus showing them the truth and making less.
