The Nationals also designated right-hander Jorge Sosa for assignment and moved lefty Scott Olsen to the 60-day DL.

Desmond not starting.  :icon_frown:

Come on. Do you really think Desmond would be acclimated to the Nat culture of losing in just one day? He needs time to see how it is done.

except the Phillies own John Lannan's life.

Career against the Phils:

36.2 IP 46 H 24 ER 8 HR 16 BB 28 K (0-5, 5.89 ERA, 1.69 WHIP)

He's never beaten them.

So they dropped Sosa but didn't replace him with anyone?

He's never beaten them.

What do you want to bet that he beats them tonight?

I was going to rush home from my class which ends at 7:10 to see him but now that Guzman and Orr are manning the middle infield I will take my time. :spaz:

Segovia had to be added to the 40 man roster as did Kensing.

I guess if he pitches long enough he will eventually beat the Phillies but why does that have to be tonight?

From Anton Gustafsson, 2008 Caps 1st round pick:

Quote
Gustafsson has previously said that he enjoys going to Nats Park. I asked why, under the theory that baseball isn't too big in Sweden.

"Exactly," he said. "Why not? I don't know, it's different from Sweden. Just sitting there and watching it, it's great. I got a friend from Sweden who plays on the baseball national team in Sweden. We talk a lot and he explains the rules."

And his favorite Nat?

"I'd say Dunn," Gustafsson said. "He's powerful, and a good hitter."

I'm shocked! SHOCKED!  Shocked that it was done this quickly.  The FO would typically let a player of this "caliber" collect checks a little longer than this!  There is a month left in the season, after all.

I wonder what the tipping point was.

I don't know how we can expect John to get his first win against the Phils tonight. I hope he does though.

-Phils historically own him (0-5 with a 5.89 ERA against Philly lifetime)
-Lefties batting .306/.378/.538 off of John (Phils have a lot of lethal LH hitters)
-Phillies are 41-27 on the road, Nationals are 28-41 at home.
-Phillies are 5-0 in which Pedro Martinez starts.
-Phillies are 7-0 in last 7 games vs Nationals.
-Phillies are coming off an embarrassing 4 game sweep by Houston over the weekend.

Space Coast looks about the same as it did during Spring Training, nice facility...just wish it had more shade.....SPF 70 helps
