seems fair- most of our recent high/expensive picks (Rendon,Giolito, Purke) have huge injury concerns. Fortunately, the whole team except for laroche is under contract for the foreseeable future, and Moore is waiting to replace him.

The good news is we are the 9th youngest team in the majors -- and we are really deep as it is. Our prospects have sometime to develop, and really aren't needed for a couple of years.

Losing the 1st round pick for Soriano will hurt, but Rizzo has done well mining late-round gems. I am not worried about this at all.

MLB.com's top 100 prospects list includes Rendon (#28), Goodwin (#52), Giolito (#74), and A.J. Cole (#91).

Keith Law today (ranking the Nats at #21 in his list of farm systems): "I love their top five prospects. There's a bottomless crevasse somewhere not far after that."

I assume Rendon, Goodwin, Giolito, Cole, but who's the 5th? I feel like KLaw would snarkily dismiss Skole, and Garcia projects as a RP and he hates those, prospect-wise. Karns?

Last year he had Purke 7th below Hood and Solis- can't see how last year has made him more optimistic.

It's gotta be between Garcia, Skole, and Karns, none of whom fit KLaw's profile.

Skole that low? Really? For comnparison, BA, which is a "tools / upside" site, has Skole 4th, pre-Cole, which is the same as hulet / fangraphs.

Keith Law put Nathan Karns as his #5 guy on the Nats system. In fact, Karns was placed in his top 100 (#99).

nice top 5. If Giolito comes back at the end of this year and can show his plus-plus stuff and decent command he will easily jump into the top 50.

What an idiot KLaw is. Just goes to show how arbitrary his selection process is, and how he just kind of decides whether he likes someone or doesn't and then fits the evidence around that.

Karns is heading into his age-25 season, has never been above high-A, and has a history of shoulder problems. He's never thrown more than 116 innings. To project that kind of player as a #2 starter and in your top 100 prospects is ridiculous.

It's just another instance of Keith Law deciding it's more important to take a controversial stand about a prospect than it is to realistically evaluate. I can't remember how many times he's said that other guys with only 2 pitches, injury histories, and strain in their deliveries are RP and not worthy of the top 100.
