Not really. Gutting the team you're being traded to really isn't that smart of an idea.

That trade on its face was never going to happen. We were a bottom feeder, why would a FA come here if he could go to a contender instead?

As best I remember, Greinke explained his reasoning well after he refused the trade. Maybe he was trying to reduce the plain insult toward the Nats, just in case he might want to participate in his auction one day.

I agree with Stephen Strasburg who said this (approximately) when Bryce Harper was negotiating down to the last minute with the Nats: "If he doesn't want to play for us, we don't need him".

Obed angry monkey. No banana for Lannan. Oh well, get em next time. I don't blame Lannan, I blame hammonds for invoking the wrath of the jinx fairy.

...and the shutout innings he threw at the Mets last week...in a start in place of Strasburg? Isn't that +1?

I think we're overestimating Strasburg's ability and performance. Frankly, the last 5 or 6 starts, he's been inconsistent at best

But Lannan's last start was worth -2 wins.

Strasburg's last start was probably worthy of a -2 WAS too!

Lannan saw Victorino and had a flashback.  I'm guessing it screwed him up for the rest of the game.

Good luck John Lannan, you were never an "ace" but you were certainly a serviceable starter for many years, and for a brief period of time you were our only major league caliber starter.

 He really came through for us this year when we needed him. I'm still grateful for what he did on a July Saturday night during the second game of a doubleheader.

Good luck.

I'll miss you John, you really did work for us. Always played like pitching for Washington meant something, even when it looked from the outside like it didn't. Good luck.
