To Dibble's point, BP found that generally when a pitcher gets tired, he is still able to maintain velocity but loses control.  They try harder to maintain their speed, but it throws off their mechanics and they throw more balls.

Time to go for Stammen.

They needed an formula/equation to figure that out?

I said it sarcastically.  :?

Saracastic or not, I'm just saying it's possible.  Or maybe he just sucks, equally as possible.

This is where and when the collars tighten around the necks of this team.  They have no heart.

The New York Post reports that Mets SS Jose B. Reyes (hamstring) participated in a simulated game Tuesday (7/21), collecting two hits. He ran very gingerly, however.

Reyes looks to be at least another couple of weeks away from returning to the Mets lineup

Quote
Carlos Beltran's post-break MRI revealed no change in the size of the bone bruise. He will need more rest and his return is not imminent, according to GM Omar Minaya.

Beltran looks like he will be out a couple of more weeks now and there is no certainty he will be full speed before the end of the season.

Nice that he just got that pop out, but I wouldn't have brought him in there. He's a flyball pitcher. We needed a DP.

They needed an equation to figure that out?

There's a lot more knowledge available for the taking now that pitch data is readily available via PitchF/x.  Easy to plot fastball speed vs. % of balls in or out of the box, by inning or pitch count.

need 1 out from you Beimel.

who pitches the 9th? Rig says he is going to go with closer by committee. I certainly wouldn't put MacDouagal out there against the heart of their lineup.

Lucky job Bergmann.

Damn I have Beltran on my fantasy team, this hurts. Quentin isnt going to be like himself anytime soon either.

He's more of a ground ball pitcher than he was a starter. He has abandoned the 90 mph straight fastball and now throws a harder, sinking fastball.

Still, he is one of our best relievers so I don't mind using him in that situation.

Here comes sportsfan to say "That strikeout negates the double. Adam Dunn's score tonight is -2."

If Nick runs and Schneider catches the throw, Nick is out.  In other words, the judgement was right to hold him.
