Brad Wilkerson retired today.

He probably hates Jose Canseco.

Wait, what did he retire from?

Darnell McDonald went 1-for-2, w/ a walk and an awesome web gem last night as the reds win again (we see them soon).  he's batting .357 right now.

McDonald > Milledge

yup, he's come back down to earth.  if he gets on base, he'll kill ya, but that's a pretty big IF.

I hope he doesn't become the next Michael Bourn. I liked that kid (Bonifacio).

Jon Rauch is sucking big time.  He just gave up a double followed by a two-run homer.

It is incredible how far Jon Rauch has fallen since we dealt him last Summer.

He has given up runs in 6 of his 8 appearances this year for the D-backs. His numbers with Arizona since the trade:

2009: (8 games) 6 IP 10 H 8 R 8 ER 1 HR 4 BB 3 K (0-0, 12.00 ERA, 2.33 WHIP, 4.5 K/9)
2008: (26 games) 23.1 IP 27 H 18 R 17 ER 6 HR 9 BB 22 K (0-6, 6.56 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, 8.49 K/9)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total: (34 games) 29.1 IP 37 H 26 R 25 ER 7 HR 13 BB 25 K (0-6, 7.67 ERA, 1.70 WHIP, 7.67 K/9)

freak him.  I hope he does.  Like Dibble was saying, he's a cocky little douchebag who isn't even that good, and I'm sick of hearing about how "good of a trade" the Marlins made when it was in fact really one-sided.

ROBINSON BECOMES SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO COMMISSIONER SELIG
THE CANADIAN PRESS
4/23/2009 7:09:29 PM

NEW YORK - Frank Robinson was appointed special assistant to the commissioner Thursday, a new role for the Hall of Famer who's spent more than a half-century in baseball.

The 73-year-old Robinson is the only player to win MVP awards in both leagues. The former outfielder also has been a major league manager and assistant general manager and an executive in the commissioner's office.

"Besides being one of the greatest players to ever play the game, Frank has served the game admirably in many different capacities," commissioner Bud Selig said.

"He has an incredible wealth of experience and knowledge that I will put to use on a regular basis and on a myriad of baseball issues."

Robinson was the special adviser to the executive vice president of baseball operations over the past two years. He was in charge of disciplinary cases from 2000-02.

Robinson is seventh on the career home run list with 586. He won the Triple Crown with Baltimore in 1966, and also played for Cincinnati, the Dodgers, Angels and Cleveland.

He managed Cleveland, San Francisco, Baltimore and Montreal and guided the Expos' franchise when it moved to Washington.

I'm not exactly sure congrats are in order for Frank, but what the heck, congrats!

The last line explains it all.  He didn't manage the Nats, he only guided them.

Frank is a hero, and heroes are worth keeping around. Not much of a manager, but a great man.

I'd have to disagree. Frank was too old by the time the Expos moved to Washington. The grind of a 162 game season was too much for him but he wasn't a bad manager. he knew his personnel better than Manny does and do you really think discipline would have been a problem?

Every team Frank managed had a losing record before he arrived and every team had a winning record by the second year. If it were one or two teams, you could say that he was lucky but he managed 4 teams. He must have had some idea about what he was doing.

He hated pitchers. Made snap judgements about guys and then ran them out of town. Played favorites worse than Manny. Remember when we were calling AAA guys up, Frank would give them 2 innings and toss them out. The bullpen games? He was pretty hamstrung by the FO, yes, but I think the game had passed him by in some regards.

You are right - he probably had a lot more fire when he was player-manager back in the day.

You are basing Frank's managerial ability based on Nationals teams that had no major league talent and even less in the minors. Ohka was the only guy he ran out of town and Frank had managed him for three seasons with the Expos. BTW, Ohka was a punk and Frank should have nag slapped his ass on the mound. Take a good look at the crap he had and what his bosses wanted him to achieve. MLB wanted wins out of a crap team, they weren't looking to build for the future or any such thing. They wanted to pump up the value of the franchise and Frank did just that. To the tune of $450M.

He had a lot of the superstitious and old-school managing practices that drive me crazy, and have showed up in Manny. Also, if you ask him, he still hates pitchers. That's unhealthy for a manager. But at least he gave a damn . . .

I can't think of a manager I really really like actually. . .

I would have gone with John "Dumb as a" Rocker

Maddux is a smart pitcher. But then again Wil Nieves is a fast catcher. Tommy Glavine is the guy I'd use, he's actually is a smart sob.

Smarter than Mark DeRosa? Just a question. Didn't Mussina get an economics degree from Stanford? I know DeRosa was on pace to get one from Wharton but don't know if he finished.
