Hmmm, not sure about that. Titanic and The English Patient won 'best picture', and both were the movie equivalent of Gaylord National Harbour or a Porsche SUV. Big, expensive, stacked with everything Hollywood could throw at a project, and yet still meh.
It's absolutely amazing how badly the 90s dominated the 80s in terms of movies. Greatest decade ever. And it's not like there were these great advancements that hurt the 80s. The 1970s obliterated them as well.
