If Davey (and Rizzo) Are So Smart, How Come We’re All Smarter?

I’m willing to accept that Johnson, as the saying goes, has forgotten more about baseball than I’ll ever know.

Davey played 13 years in the Majors.  More, I suspect, than anyone else here.

Davey managed teams into the playoffs and World Series.  Again, I don’t believe anyone on this forum has accomplished that.

Then how come we all knew to start Lambo before Davey did?

And we all knew before Davey realized that HRod was (currently anyway) not closer material. 

We all screamed for Lidge to be DFA’ed.  Finally Johnson joined the bandwagon.

Many of us noticed Zimm was (possibly hurt and) not hitting.  Now, suddenly, Davey has noticed that too!

So, what gives?

You're cherry picking board suggestions that worked. WNFF has DFA'd so many players we wouldn't be able to field a 25-man.

This. Plus hammonds would've re-signed Dunn.

Also, it's a lot easier for us to demand changes than it is to actually make them.

Seriously? ...

Here's a novel concept... We don't know these guys. DFAing Lidge could be the end of his career. Zim is a great guy, clubhouse leader, etc. sitting him down or moving him down is embarrassing and a big blow. The personal factor leads Davey and Rizzo to give these guys every opportunity plus a couple more. None of us on here know a tenth of what Davey and Rizzo know. We also don't have to look them in the face.

Hey, he's got veteran presence.  He needs to win the 2012 "Ivan 'Sludge' Rodriguez" Award for Werthless contribution to the roster.  Last year it was Matt Stares.

Davey has been around the game a long time. He's seen that it takes a lot of games to really establish something about a player's performance.

Great example of this is BJ Upton. If you were to go by his first full season, you would think the guy was the next great HOF player. But, over time, he's sort of settled in to the good category.

Davey recognizes this. He's old school baseball. It's all about the sound of the ball off the bat and whether is girlfriend is hot.
