If Francona takes the fall, my vote: Tito goes to the Nats. That way, NatsPark Carter & Dawson plaque will have 3rd Expo.

Already stated in another thread that I'd rather keep Davey Johnson then hire Bo Porter.

Yes, I'm a homer, deal with it.

I'll just say this, Tito was widely considered a pretty poor manager before Curt Schilling insisted that he be hired if they wanted him to sign there and.  (Pretty sure I have that story straight).  He was used as a pawn by CS and gift wrapped a ton of talent.  His managing the past year or so brings that back into question, IMO.

Seems to me Francona just relied on out slugging people and when the hitting struggled, they were effed.

He seems like the anti-Riggleman. Riggleman micro managed his ass off, tried to win individual matchups, tried to keep the clubhouse up for every game, and basically managed like the season was a sprint. Francona seems like he put his game plan into motion before the game and let the players win or lose it themselves. Also seems like he let the players control themselves.

His record is great but I don't think he is a world beater.

He's almost certain to end up with one of the Chicago teams.

He really shouldn't make that kind of a decision so soon after the collapse.  He should wait awhile.  We all know it's hard to get out of a tailspin once it starts!

WOW.

Did not see this happening, despite the collapse.

On Overtime (FM-106.7) last night they were debating the possibility of this.

He brought them two rings after almost a 100 year drought, the most recent was only 4 years ago- the Red Sox are now worse than the Yankees, here's hoping that particular entitled fan base has another 100 years of not winning anything

Terry Francona is the poster child for the main reason why baseball field manager is the most overrated job in all of sports.

It just seems silly to blame him given all the pitching injuries, but such is life in Boston.

I don't want him here though. Keep Davey.

Has Theo shot down the Cubs rumors?  If he goes there, it could be a while before we find out.

I thought this was the right move for the Sox (assuming it's official).

I don't like him as a fit for the Nationals. I don't intend this as a knock against him, I never had anything against him, but he shouldn't be managing a team like the Nats. The Chicago teams work, although he does feel like much more of an AL manager than an NL manager.

I think this is just stupid for the Red Sox, overreaction at it's finest. Francona led them to how many postseasons? How many other teams won two rings in the last seven years? BS. A team with the biggest sense of entitlement making moronic calls based on that entitlement. Let's see how long it'll be until they make the postseason again... I say a long, long time. Unless they go out buying every FA they can and have an even more outrageous payroll. Francona is a good manager, and was a good fit in Boston. Their loss. As a Sox hater, can't say I mourn it. With TB owning despite losing nearly it's entire pitching staff, and having almost every first round pick this last draft, and one of the lowest payrolls out there, Boston was screwed either way. Good riddance.

Ha!  Indians just picked up Acta's 2013 (that's right, 2013) option.  Good luck to them...

Foolish impulse by the Red Sox management. Joe Cronin once said, "The players make the manager". (Said just before he managed the Nats powerhouse team in 1933 that beat the Ruth/Gehrig Yankees for the AL pennant). In this case, the Red Sox players un-made their manager. I'm not sure I'd want any player from that team on the Nats. (Yes, refrence to Crawford / Werth. I like our guy better.)

I like Davey. He's not perfect, but he knows a lot about baseball, and knows the Nats. Keep Davey as long as he wants to manage.
