Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 68th win, each season:

2012 - 8th August (111th match of season)
2005 - 30th August (131st match)
2011 - 12th September (145th match)
2007 - 18th September (151st match)
2006 - 24th September (155th match)
2010 - 28th September (158th match)
---
2008 - finished 59-102
2009 - finished 59-103

---

THIS DAY WITH THE '05 OVERACHIEVERS: Monday 8th August 2005 was a travel day; on the 9th they would start a 4-city away swing (Astros/Rockies/Phillies/Mets); record 58-53.

---

Attendance 16,038, the Astros' eleventh consecutive weeknight (Monday-Thursday) home fixture to draw less than 20k. The three matches of this series played thus far have drawn a total of 44,154 - that's 531 less than attended the Phillies invasion of Nats Park on 20th August 2011.

A win today will tie the 2010 team at 69 wins. A very successful road trip against the snakes and Giants could put us tied with the '06 team with 71 wins and the '07 team with 73 or better. Wow!!!!

Also , a win today would give us a win streak of a season high 6 games. Don't want to jinx the team but Tom Terp assured me that there is no such thing as a jinx.

Exactly.  No such thing.  And even if there was, you have to realize that all across the land people are committing aggregious jinx offenses in every which possible direction, such that the jinx fairy would have to perform a detailed analysis and netting out process to decide who should win a particular contest, all based upon the model output.

For example, maybe you knocked on wood as you were typing that.  I may not know that you knocked on wood, but the jinx fairy is reputed to be exceptionally perceptive of such "safe harbor" maneuvers.  But what if the wood you knocked on was artificial wood?   Not sure how that would be evaluated.  Is intent good enough?  All that counts?  Or does it have to be real wood?

Laminate is acceptable in a sport's jinx nix.   However, when averting nuclear war for example, one must use real wood, preferably teak or mahogany.

The best two months. This is the fun part, the playoffs and all that are the pay off but the long slow race is what makes baseball great.
