seriously, there is absolutely no reason for matt stairs to be eating up a roster spot if he is going to stand there and take 3 strikes. I realize his veteran presence and all that, but that spot right there was WHY HE IS ON THE TEAM. Brutal.
Agree 100%.

This is the time of the year when we're reminded how brutal it is to be a Washington sports fan. The Bullets are out of the playoffs. The Nats are getting rolled again. The Caps are business as usual in the postseason. In 6 months we'll get the other reminder when the Skins are 2-4 and already out of postseason contention.   :asplode:

The umpiring crew is a total joke and the home plate guy was in way over his head but that doesn't excuse those freakers for not swinging the bat. I would have rather seen Morse and Ramos. And that's on Riggleman. Stupid nag

2 out of the 3 pitches to Pudge were balls.
Lol, come on. You know you can't just watch the ball when your team is on its last strike, even if it was borderline. The strike zone was huge anyway.

Plus, it's not based off of one AB. Ramos is batting like .460, he needs to play more.

as far as losses go, this wasn't bad.  desmond earns golden turd.  if not for that, they hung tough the whole game and had a chance at the end against the best pitcher in the game.  can't really ask for too much more.

i think we beat cliff lee tomorrow.

I would have rather seen Stairs hit into a DP to end it. freaking awful, anyone can go up there and stand and take 3 pitches right down the middle.

This team is dumb as freak.

So, how was that to end the game, 6 strikes looking? I'm pretty sure I've never seen that before...

you still haven't seen it.

you can not be serious about that.  You'd rather have him swing at a pitch that he'll ground into a DP than lay off a pitch where he knows that will happen than take a 3rd strike?  That's insane.  At least give the guy a chance to do something if you know you can't with what they're throwing up there.  And that last pitch wasn't down the middle, it was up and away, a pitch he's not going to be able to drive.

Did Charlie Manuel slip a Benjamin to the home plate umpire on the way back to the dugout from his mound visit?

At very least, with the rally at the end of the game, the Phils are thinking about the Nats now. Maybe not worried, exactly, but thinking about them.

But he gets a free pass because he has drawn a few walks and had a good PH career. Hasn't done crap for us.

I believe Pudge has had pretty good success against Halladay in the past.

oh, and yeah there is no reason for Matt Stairs to be on this team.

especially with 3B and 1B injuries.

the point is Stairs is on the roster for one reason....to be up there hacking in a spot like that.
He must swing the bat there.

Stairs is the best pinch watcher in the MLB.

They're thinking that they own the Nationals and their Park. They will try to collect rent on the way out tomorrow but Lerner will not be in his office.
