Henry Rodriguez allowed one hit and stuck out two in one scoreless inning. In four innings on his rehab assignment, Rodriguez has allowed no runs and struck out seven.

Got this from Kilgore.  http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/nationals-journal/post/livan_hernandezs_surprise_squeeze_bunt_and_his_devious_curveball/2011/04/13/AFkjXrTD_blog.html?wprss=nationals-journal

If HRod has his control issues sorted out, he's another option for the pen.  Actually, he's not really an option as much as a definite - he'll need to be there after his minor league rehab.  Hopefully they work out a trade for Broderick by that point.

I forgot who... but someone on this board saw him at Harrisburg and said his control is not fixed.

Oh well, at least he'll be entertaining.

Cameron Selik with another solid outing [5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 5 SO, 5 GO/1 FO].  Adrian Sanchez is a guy to watch on Hagerstown.  Slick fielding second baseman, he made a few fine defensive plays today including the final out of the game.  He also scored the one and only run of the game to keep Hagerstown undefeated.

Low 90s.

Souza goes deep for the third time this season.  He is primed for a breakout season this year, hopefully he keeps it up.

Found a nice tidbit of info on Selik. Intriguing

Quote
RHP Cameron Selik (22nd round-University of Kansas)

A little more on Selik than most of these other guys.

Sickels (5/25/2010): "He's a big guy at 6-3, 240 pounds, a "strong legs" type. His numbers are so-so this year, 4.66 ERA with a 68/30 K/BB in 85 innings, 86 hits. But he has a decent fastball at 88-92 MPH, and got some nasty break on his slider at times, in addition to mixing in a few changeups. He would profile as a bullpen back-ender at the higher levels, but someone in the later rounds could pick him up. Guys with worse arms have been successful pitchers.

The Kansan noted that Selik hit 95 mph in a start against Baylor in March. It looks like he's finally starting to come around from his Tommy John surgery in 2007 (a good article from KU's official site about his recovery can be found here. Another by the Kansan can be found here). Another interesting note about his selection: Selik was Stephen Strasburg's catcher growing up.

Hague was pulled from the first game with a shoulder injury.  He has suffered from a separated shoulder in the past, but he said the pain from this newest injury is not as bad as the separation.

Head first slides should be banned in the minors so players stop doing it.

Spoken by a Josh Hamilton fantasy owner.

Nick (Montreal): Jim, Tom Milone has been nothing but great since being drafted by the Nats. Why hasn't there been much more hype about him? I'm I missing something?

Jim Callis: He has put up nice numbers, but he usually pitches at 85-87 mph. Wouldn't surprise me if he pitches his way to Washington, but I don't see him becoming a key piece of the Nationals' future.

i think meyers has more of a chance of the two (although he didn't fare too well last night).

Really? I'd rather take my chances on a lefty surviving with that velocity than someone like Meyers who is right handed and lives at 90-91. Of course, I hope both make it and dominate!

yeah i'm down with both having great careers.  milone sounds like lannan with less velocity and better control.  meyers reminds me a bit of stammen with better offspeed stuff.

Both Maya and Detwiler had good nights last night.

Also, Bernadina started a game in CF with Corey Brown in LF.  Read into that whatever you will.

Erik Davis from the AlGo trade had a decent night pitching.

Bryce Harper after 8 games with Hagerstown:

(.250/.344/.393) with 1 Double, 1 HR, 5 RBIs, 4 BBs, 8 Ks, 1 SB, 2 CS. No errors in the field yet.

Not too bad of a start all things considered. I'd look for him to get into a groove soon.

I expect this to be a recurring pattern.  He'll initially struggle a bit then catch fire and dominate until he moves up to the next level.  Rinse, repeat.
