I agree with everything, although, I think next year he needs to get a position set so that he can come up in 2014, so I guess I think there's some urgency this off season. Maybe SS would be better for the ankles, but I wonder if he'd be able to hold his own defensively there- post steroid, it seems like you don't see as many power hitters there

The only place that I see Rendon as a long term fit is at first. LaRoche and Morse will both be gone by then and it is the only infield spot that will be available in the mid- to long term future. Rendon does not have the ankles to play second base or the range for shortstop. Also I think our front office see Desmond and Espy as long term pieces.

My best guess is that Rendon spends most of 2013 in AAA and comes up in September (barring an injury at 1st or 3rd base) and is our first baseman from 2014 and onward.

Maybe with an Allen Craig type bat.

Dustin Parks (Goldstein's 100th podcast): "God damn, that swing!"

paraphrasing Goldstein and Parks,  He can hit at the MLB level right now, he has to be able to stay on the field.

DPM posted the podcast link in the Giolito thread.

Watched Rendon last night.  Drew a nice walk after fouling off some pitches, and drove an opposite field shot deep to the wall for a triple late in the contest.  He ended up scoring in what was a tight 6-4 win against the top team in the League, Winston-Salem.

I think Nats prospects is an independent blog/website, but I'm not sure.

Suppose he rakes in H-burg for the next couple weeks, will Davey demand he be called up?

Would having him as a September call-up start his clock?  I thought it didn't.

It does. Anytime a player is on the 25 man roster or the DL, his service time clock is ticking. Its better to wait until he is ready and we have a position for him.

It starts his clock. But the days don't count against his rookie status.

The Sens play four in Richmond at the end of the month.

I see you're from VA so maybe that's a doable drive?

Ohhh, that's what I was thinking about.

Yeah, don't call him up yet in that case.
