I'd be happy to be wrong about that quote forever, but just look at Pujols' stance at the plate. He's a freak.

Nah, this is just emergence of a young star. that 5 year deal is looking real nice right now

I always felt his power would come around but not like this, at least not for another 3 years or so. I also was thinking earlier, regarding that 5 year deal, that if two or three of our prospects work out in the next 2 years or so that I could see the Lerners trading away Zimmerman by the time his salary balloons to 12 and 14 million dollars in years 4 and 5 of that deal. It wouldn't totally shock me to see that happen.

No longer is Joe Beimel hurting. He's just itching. On the disabled list April 21 with a left hip flexor strain, the Washington Nationals' best relief pitcher now has an entirely healthy left hip flexor and a gnawing desire to pitch again.

"I mean, I'm fine now," Beimel said today. "I was fine after about three days. It was one of those things where nobody expected it to heal that quickly."

As a result, Beimel is waiting, and "itching to get back out there," he said. While counting down the minutes until his return -- Beimel will rejoin the Nationals on May 6, his first day of eligibility --
the left-hander has followed a peripatetic schedule. Yesterday, he was in Viera, Fla., working out at the team's spring training complex and throwing a 25-pitch simulated game. This morning, he flew back to the District. Tomorrow and Sunday, he'll pitch in a rehab assignment with Class A Potomac.

Since Beimel injured himself, Washington has restructured its bullpen, replacing Joel Hanrahan with a closer-by-committee system, which means Beimel will return to a new role. At minimum, he'll share the ninth inning duties with Julian Tavarez and Kip Wells. But there's a chance, Manager Manny Acta said, that Beimel will take the job.

"We won't be afraid to hand him the closing job if he proves he's the guy for it," Acta said.

If the GM knew how to manage a roster, right now we could insert Jason Bergmann and ask him to pitch five for us.

nah, especially if we are starting to piece it all together and win by that point. that would be dumb. I'm hoping that by years 4 and 5 we are kicking ass and are a perennial NL East contender.

I wouldn't disagree with the decision as long as his value was high enough to yield a hefty bounty in return. Of course if it is only done for the sake of saving money that would sort of suck but in the end that won't really matter if all the other players are in place and it brings back good players.
