Boom.

Awesome.

I love seeing out of town parks empty out by the late innings.

Amazing, I think we can go all the way. We're setting a trend for winning in DC and I LOVE IT :w:

So, here's something fun.

At this moment, the Nats are 3rd in run differential in baseball behind the Yankees who won tonight 8-2 and St. Louis who have the night off.  Looks something like this:

NYY + 103
StL + 101
WAS + 96

Assuming the Nats maintain at least a 7 run lead, they'll jump both of them tonight.

Nats +108

Yankees +103

St Louis +101

Not to steal OC's thunder but with last nites win the team has surpassed the 2006 team in total victories. If we win tonight we will tie the 2007 team for total wins. A sweep means that the only teams in DC to have a better win total would be the inaugral team of 2005 with 81 and the 2011 version at 80.

Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 72nd win, each season:

2012 - 13th August (116th match of season)
2005 - 5th September (138th match)
2011 - 18th September (151st match)
2007 - 26th September (159th match)
---
2006 - finished 71-91
2010 - finished 69-93
2008 - finished 59-102
2009 - finished 59-103

---

THIS DAY WITH THE '05 OVERACHIEVERS: Saturday 13th August 2005 saw four pitchers combine on an 8-nil clean-sheeting of the Rockies at Coors Field...record now 61-55...http://espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250813127

---

Listened to last night's match on the bedside radio...had trouble getting to sleep afterward...incredible resilience by the Nats after that Arizona finale. (Nats have not lost back-to-backs since the first two of that Phillies home series on 31st July/1st August...since then they've gone 11-2...combine that with the Braves losing to the Padres yesterday and it's all a fan could want.)

Wet blanket alert!

This game counts in the standings just as much as the 9 run collapse did...

But it showcases the offense and we destroyed a CyYoung candidate.

Obviously the Nats still have to come back fighting today but this is a great way to start a series.

Which is why I wasn't surprised to see a stone faced Rizzo in the stands. Micro, the game is great, macro... it's just another game in the 162 grind.

Without question.  But it only counts for one.  Giants are probably gonna come out fired up today, can't let their guard down (I don't expect them to, but I've seen it happen so many times before).

Little late on this, but my friend from San Francisco was out at a bar in San Fran watching the game yesterday, and maybe it's because it's getting towards football season, but a member of the Giant's version of the SSS said something along the lines of "Don't worry, it's still a two possession game."   :lmao:

You have to wonder, though, if losing that 9 run collapse game informed the players for this game... grind, grind grind. Any lead can be given up with the proper lack of focus.

I'm sure it did.  Davey said also that the 7-4 win over Miami fed into it too, allowing the tying run to get to the plate.  He said that can't happen.

The Deadskins could only dream of putting up 14 on the 49ers.

Slowes mentioned 'the Nats have scored two touchdowns' on the Giants.
