Haren to Cubs not happening according to MLBTR.

Ken Rosenthal says the Cubs nixed the deal.

Haren must have lupus or something if the Cubs nixed the deal.  Marmol is absolutely terrible and has zero value.  They would have gotten, at the very least, a younger version of Ryan Dempster and another shot at trading a pitcher for some actual prospect next season.

Something tells me Haren isn't healthy.

C'mon Rizzo!  You got an hour and 20 minutes to pull off a trade!

Rizzo should get some Haren his chest and at least inquire about em. I want to know if he's dead or something.

If the Angels do trade Haren and it isn't to the Nats, I'd like to see what is given up by the other team.  If it's someone like Marmol, then the Nats were stupid not to at least offer someone like H-Rod to them for Haren.

If that is what it takes though, I would not be surprised if Haren is hurt.  Something like his back is tweaked.

sign Morgan, trade him to the Cubs for Marmol, then send Marmol and Justin Bloxom to the Angels for Haren.

Dan Haren is now a FA. Angels did not pick up his option.

No one wants H-Rod, guys. He's not better than other horrible relievers.

Either there was more to the Haren to Cubs deal than was being reported or Haren is still hurt. That trade would have been an absolute steal for the Cubs; I believe the Angels were even sending some money over as well.

I hope he isn't hurt and that Rizzo makes a serious offer to him. Haren and Sanchez are the two pitchers on the market I'm most interested in.

Pretty sure the Cubs are doing that "suck to get excellent draft position" thing. I'd be surprised if they acquired any top-level talent this year.

But had they traded for Haren they could have flipped him for a prospect or two at the deadline.

Kilgore on Jackson:

Quote
The Nationals did not make a qualifying offer to starter Edwin Jackson, which means they will receive nothing if he signs elsewhere. The decision seemingly cuts the cord between the Nationals and Jackson – if they do not want to risk paying him $13.3 million for one year, they will not be competitive for his services on the free agent market.

This smells like a sweetheart deal last year with Boras.  By not offering a QO, it probably adds a few million to Jackson's offers.  A team like the Angels or Baltimore could bring him in and not lose a middling 1st round pick.

Royals wanted to trade one of their position players for a Mariners pitching prospect - maybe we can get in on that trade.

We get Alex Gordon
Seattle gets Rendon
Royals get whatever Seattle pitching prospect they want

Royals get to keep their younger, cheaper position players.  Seattle gets another good hitting prospect.  We get a gold glove outfielder than can lead off and hits lefty.

why would seattle want someone who is unproven and yet they'd have to give up a big pitching prospect?

i like rendon, but this isn't fantasy.

He bats left handed, I meant.  If LaRoche leaves, we need another guy besides Harper that bats left handed.  Otherwise, Harper will face lefty specialists once or twice a game every game.  Even as it stands, that might happen, but at least the otehr lefty masher won't have to face the loogy.
