Braun and Soriano were moved because they were error machines. Zim has a shoulder issue.

1. Can he make those throws reasonably well (as well as Morse)?
2. Will this aggrevate his shoulder?

Intriguing possibility ...

If Zimmerman can make the throws in outfield then I have no doubt he will become a Gold Glove caliber player out there. Zimmerman is the consummate professional and grinder. His bat is big enough for LF and no doubt his defense would be a plus.

If Harper comes back after Zimmerman then having Span in CF could help Zimmerman out in the early going.

I wonder what he thinks about this possibility.

  • Let's drink a few for Mathguy.
It's different, but I'm not sure that if you can't throw overhand in the infield, you'll suddenly lose the impingement when you try to outfield style.
And Chipper got injured.

I guess. Never thought about it like that.

This "move" might help Werth get to 1B eventually if Zimmerman sticks in LF.

Right now I think long term Zimmerman is at 1B and Werth stays in LF. If Zimmerman ends up playing high caliber outfield outfield defense, then maybe Werth moves to 1B in 2016 or '17. Werth isn't Adam Dunn out there and the Nats aren't paying him for elite defense. I would rather have Harper in LF, Werth in RF, and Zim at 1B with Rendon at 3B and a good glove, not-bad bat at 2B.

Long term, Werth should be in LF. Whether Harper plays CF or RF depends on who develops in the minors

We need his bat anyway we can get it. He can't hurt us worse from LF than he did at 3B.

it does make more sense to keep the IF as is and put zimm in LF until Harper returns.  Zimm's bat is way better than anyone else we can put out there.

Zimm was taking infield practice at first base today before the game.

MASN also showed him taking flies and ALR sang his praises.

  • Hell yes!
An outfield throw is very different from an infield throw; it puts less strain on the shoulder.  Try it at home: short arm throw, feel the pressure point at the shoulder. Full arm-circle throw, less pressure.   I think it could work.

Agreed, outfield throw is easier because you can put your whole body into it easily.  Even get a running start.

I actually really like the idea of Zim in LF...hope we get to see it. Until then, put Souza in.

Heard about that on the news.    I guess a young lady didn't want her parents to find out she dropped out of school.

Yeah, I'm up here right now. I was at a graduation party when the threat was called in, but I heard there wasn't any actual bomb. This girl is kinda screwed though.

I assume you have tried Pete's Apizza by now?  I had a slice of "New Haven" (white w/ clams) after the game on Saturday.

I'm less keen on their slices.  This stuff is better as a fresh whole pie.
