Ten days since the last post in this thread, so it is fitting to add his 10 game and season stats updates, courtesy of MiLB.com:
10 game - 36 ABs, .306 /.422 / .639, 2 HR,
8 BB, 5 K season - 456 ABs, .305 /.381 / .463, 14 HR, 56 Bb, 91 K.
In June, July, and August, he's had 37 BB and 49 Ks. That is a big improvement in plate discipline.
We've been posting Adrian Gonzalez's numbers at a comparable age and level for a while. Marrero started this year at age 22, turned 23 in July. this is his first full year in AAA in the IL. To compare, AG had reached Albuquerque at the tail end of his age 21 season, but did not have much success. In his first full year in AAA, he was 21 and turned 22 in May. He put up a .304 / .364 / .457 line over 457 ABs in OK city, with 12 HR, 39 BB, and 73 Ks. The next year (comparable age to Marrero), over 328 ABs in OK City, AG was .338 / .399 / .561, with 18 Hr, 32 BB, and 44 K. Edge to AG at comparable age, but with the caveat that the PCL is more hitter-friendly than the international league. Marrero seems more disciplined than AG at a comparable age, and the progress on BB/K over the last 3 months seems very AG-like. Also, the 3 month numbers (June - August) for Marrero, over 279 ABs, are even closer to AG second season in OK City, except for the HR (9 for CM). CM's OBP has been over .400 each of those months, and the SLG .494 (my calculation) is pretty close given the diffference in leagues.
I'm actually pretty surprised how close these two are tracking.
