2B is wide open

no it isn't.  Espinosa is still a plus glove.

Faint praise, if he's not hitting in April Rendon gets the spot.

He'll start the season in the minors

It looks to me like Rendon can be called up for the 4/12 game against the Braves and only accumulate 171 days of MLB service time for 2013, keeping him under team control for six more years after this season.

So that means he can be called up for the Sunday 4/21 game in NY and make his home debut on 4/22 against the Cards.

I believe he could play on the 21st but you get the idea. They could add Skole on the 12th because he doesn't have to be optioned to the minors.

As long as Rendon doesn't hurt himself.

2B is wide open

He hasn't  shown he can play it and Davey loves Danny, as evidenced by Danny's  terrible slump last season and Davey not even willing to consider platooning Danny and Lombo.

If Desmond didn't get pulled for how he played for two plus years, Espinosa won't either.

Needless to say, it's a very nice thing to have Anthony Rendon waiting in the wings and if he proves he can defensively handle 2B, I'd like to see him take over and move Espinosa for something else... like a long term 1B or C.

A good defensive 2B who whiffs a lot doesn't get you the long term answer at 1st, but it should get you a plus lefty reliever.

Right. Because that's all he is.

WNFF doesn't seem to understand that he's a Top 15 2B in the game, warts and all. In fact, since 2011, he's 7th in WAR for all MLB 2B. (13th best in hitting. 8th in fielding) I don't think people understand how bad hitting at 2B is around the league.

If Rizzo can't get more than a LHP RP for a Top 15 2B... he's not doing his job right.

All that says is how weak the 2b position is. You say it like its a positive for Danny. Having the likes of Jamey Carroll, Jeff Keppinger, and Mak Ellis ranked higher than him isn't something to brag about.

It also shows how there are flaws in WAR. I would take Kinsler, Scutaro, and Altuve over Danny and all are below him. FWIW, I would take Danny over Keppingernand Carroll, both ranked ahead of him.

I was elated when we drafted Danny but he's clearly the weak link in the infield. Hell, hes really the weak link of position players period. He is a very good defender but that doesn't balance out with him hitting less than .250 and striking out 1 out of every 3 trips to the plate. Danny struck out at the same rate he reached base via hit/walk. He K'd 189 times, and had just 193 hits/walks. That's unacceptable.

With a potential middle of the order bat and solid glove in Rendon, th heat is definitely on Danny to produce or lose his job.

Give Rendon time to learn second and prove that his ankles aren't made of glass shards and Kleenex.

Stats are great until they say something you don't agree with.

If Espi is the seventh best 2B in baseball then Rendon is on track to be at least the sixth best.

Stats are great because you can manipulate them any way you want.

In Danny's case, they state the obvious. He strikes out way too often and doesn't get on base enough. There's really no arguing that.

But he can pick a ground ball on the move, so lets ignore the rest.
