Who is your scapegoat?
« Topic Start: October 13, 2012, 01:21:18 PM »
Storen- Obvious. Brilliant idea to draft a closer with a top 10 pick when most closers are the same. I don't know why he allowed the runner to steal on him in the 9th. The runner made it to 2nd base before Storen even threw the pitch.

EJax- Don't let the door hit you on the way out

Davey- His game 3 decision to use Storen in a meaningless spot might have been the reason Storen collapsed yesterday.

Gio- Worst ace ever? I bet even Livan and Lannan wouldn't walk that many guys with a 6-0 lead.

Clippard- I called him giving up a HR in this game. He always does. How hard is it to get out the bottom of the order scrubs?

Storen. The walks to Molina and Freese were inexplicable.

Storen- as bad as the rest of the staff was,  you should be able to hand a closer a two run lead and expect a win

Rizzo - Inadequate planning on spreading out the Strasburg starts (especially when we were playoff bound at the All Star break) if he truly knew he was going to shut him down at 160 innings (it was always speculated - never confirmed).

Edwin Jackson never pitches that game 3 debacle and probably doesn't pitch Game 4 either as Ross was better down the stretch. Gio only gets one start, not two. Zimmermann pitches at home (where he is better). Stras would have Games 1 and 5 (like a true ace).

Stop. Just stop.

You win as a team and you lose as a team. What are you, like 12? You have to blame somebody?

Everyone isn't equal- when we won,  Werth with his walk off was not equal to Gio cheering from the bench, likewise Tyler Moore doesn't have the same responsibility for last night as Storen.  Maybe if they were twelve,  they'd all get participation trophies,  but they are professionals and they are going to get blamed as individuals when they fall short

My point is there is never one guy you can point to. Why didn't Gio pitch longer, why didn't Desi make that play, why didn't Tracy get that clutch hit, why did Clippard give up that HR, why did Jackson walk two guys, etc.

You get it? There's always plenty of blame to go around. It's like that kicker in the NFL game. He misses he's the goat but it's the team that was down as time was running out.

Blaming one guy is what kids on the playground do. I'd like to think posters on here are a little more sophisticated than that.

You really don't get the point, do you? The results are the sum of the parts. If you want to blame someone to make you feel better go ahead but it's a little more complex than that.

Suzuki for his game calling (or maybe McCatty - whoever kept wanting pitches low and outside when the ump wasn't calling those and the Cards weren't chasing)

I have very little interest in finding a scapegoat.  In games like that, there are so many little things that could have gone differently to change the outcome.

Frankly, it's sophomoric to even think about scapegoats. The very term implies wrongheaded thinking...

Scapegoating is the practice of singling out any party for unmerited negative treatment or blame as a scapegoat.

Bosh. George Steinbrenner was a "finder of scapegoats".

Gio gave them 2 runs for no reason, wild pitch and walked in a run.  If it weren't for those 2 runs I think we would've won.  Obviously Storen too.  Also Espinosa was a disaster at the plate in my opinion (entire series).

The pitching staff.

When you're given a 6-0 lead, you're expected to win, especially in the postseason.  They were utter failures last night.
