To be honest, the offense was awful WITH Zimmerman in the lineup.  Is Morse going to make THAT big of a difference, especially coming off of his injury?

He did last year.

I just don't see how you can justify keeping Eckstein as hitting coach any longer.

He passes the eyeball test.

He did last year.

So our ceiling is last year's worst-ever offense.  Sweet life.

Sarcasm aside, If we don't get Morse back until June, he's obviously not going to contribute nearly as much as he did last year even if he bats at the same pace.  A mostly-healthy RZ might offset that loss, but even if he does, we're still optimistically looking at 600-run team.

How so?  We're tied with them for second-to-last in baseball.

their guys are underperforming far more than our guys.  Look at their top 3:

Reyes: .224 / .302
Bonafacio .244 / .327 but slumping badly
Hanley .209 / .313 / .384

Only LoMo and Infante are hitting.  Stanton has a .377 SLG with 2HRs (though he's starting to pick it up).  Sanchez is batting .197.

Our issues are more due to lack of talent/progression and injuries, they are woefully underperforming.

He wanted a two year deal, can't have that

not in the 2nd half:

.200    .275    .333, 4HR in 149 PAs from July 1 onward.

i feel better about our offense after looking at Miami.

They have guys that should be producing slumping.  We have guys that can't produce that are living up their potential.  Not a fair comparison.

And at that point we had marerro here soon after so morse went to lf.

i wasnt suggesting resigning him but he certainly broke out substantially more than others.

I'd bat Harper 2nd.  I'd also put Moore in LF because everyone else has already been given a shot and pretty much failed.

I'd like to see this too.  Once Morse gets back, I'd like to see:

Lombo (hopefully he'll settle in by then, but I think he's the closest we'll have to a competent leadoff hitter by the ASB)
Harper
Zim
Morse
LaRoche
Werth
Ramos
Desmond/Espinosa
Pitcher

I'm happy to see that the Marlins are in last place and struggling at the plate - that makes me feel better.

At some point, Zim and Morse will come back.  If we can manage to keep the ship afloat until they come back, we'll be in good shape.

The Marlins have kind of an 'implosion factor' to them with all of the 'colorful' personalities they have.

btw, given our offense, shouldn't this be PFC or CPL offensive discussion rather than General?

well yeah, because we're missing key components, and we have a better pitching staff that can keep us in games despite our offense.  we also didn't bring in high-priced free agents that aren't contributing (reyes, bell).

That destroys what we've been putting in LF before calling up Harper

The only problem with that logic is that you assume they'll never contribute this season.

honestly would be okay with parting with any pitcher not named Strasburg if it meant adding a legitimate, consistent bat to the lineup.

can't believe I'm saying that, but I can't take much more of this offense.  we will go nowhere if we can't win games where our pitching allows 2 runs.

the package we paid for gio could have been that bat

Strongly disagree here.  Must keep Zimmermann & Gio

lowest payroll in the division, number 20 overall. On offense Werth and Zimmerman are the only players over ten million this year, and Harper, laroche, morse and ankiel (1.25) are the only other players over $1 million

If we had a decent ownership group it wouldn't be a question of a bat or an arm.
