This was a hot topic on the other board, thought I would bring it over here.  Should we sign Guillen, if he swallows his pride, and signs for a five million dollar contract over, say, three years?  A Soriano-Kearns-Guillen tandem would be very powerful if all of them would play to their potential.  Soriano's 45-50 HR's with Kearns' 25-30 and Guillen's 20-25 would be a great combo.  There is a lot to debate about on this trade, I'm not fully supportive of this, more like a what if.

OK, answer this.  Did you honestly feel that was in 2005 when he was producing, even leading the majors in home runs at one point?

Absolutely!
I don't care if he's MVP of the NL. He's a hot dog
and over-rated. You can take the ballplayer out of
the JERK, but you can never take the JERK out of
the ballplayer.

Major League Baseball players are paid to perform, so when a player is performing, he is doing his job.  So you would still hate him if he won the NL MVP with a 4 million dollar salary?  Doubt it, because if he was the MVP, the Nationals would probably be in the playoffs.

I'm torn on this one, like stated he can produce when healthy, but he may be decent trade bait to another.

I guess wither way will tell us for sure what direction the team is taking to create a winning team.

You doubt wrong then.
The Nats won't make the playoffs with one guy carrying them,
and if they do, they won't last long.

I honestly dont think he'd be trade bait, with him being such a headcase at times, too much baggage for other teams.  Similar to Milton Bradley.

Look up how many MVPs have won the award
FROM THE disabled list.

You'll have to ask me when he wins the MVP. I won't put my
hands together for the announcement.

Now you can go and guess all you want.....but the doubt is
all yours and its wrong.

You asked the question, I answered it. You can love the guy.
I don't care if he wins MVP in a casket!
He's a jerk on the DL
He's a jerk in the outfield
He's a jerk in the dugout
He's a jerk in the clubhouse

If we don't sign him, I won't cry. If we do sign him, I won't cry
but I won't clap for him either.

If he comes cheap and he is healthy at the start of next season, I see no reason not to.  We'd especially need him when Soriano pulls the big ditch job on DC.

He's worth the risk. After the GREAT year he's had how much could he be?? 1 million at the most, and he syas he likes washington s way not if he returns to form we could have a replacement for Alfonso if he dosen't resign.

Dump him...No reason to keep him. Overall he is a mediocre player that has some personality issues. Without Frank here, do you think he will bein check? Nah...Send him to Toronto and lets see him slug the manager there instead.

Fine, if Guillen swallows his pride, we can re-sign him.  Fortunatley, he will never swallow his pride.

No one's going to sign him to a long term contract so if there is an attempt to sign him, we'll see if he really wants to be here. It will be a short term, relatively low dollar contract with us or a short term, relatively low dollar contract with someone else.

I say yes - only if we resign him to a 1 year contract at the league minimum.  Giving him anything more than that could be a waste of money and could take away the opportunity for a young OF such as Kasto to try to make an impression.

Offer a minor league contract and see if he MAKES THE TEAM!
