My wife was at a wonderful little hotel right near the tower two years ago.  She's asleep now, but I'll find out tomorrow.  She absolutely loved it!

Actually, Jacques Cousteau hated us.  Now that he is no longer president, another guy has taken over, and he gushes about how great America is.  No worries.

Get your Passport NOW!  I've heard of all kinds of delays!

My Mom and Dad went to Paris years ago and loved it!  The art and the churches!

Get one of those language course software.  They appreciate it if you at least try to speak the language.

Sorry, can't provide any more advice than that.

My wife can't remember the name, and tried looking it up this morning, but didn't find it.  She thought it was something like La Europa, but she's not at all certain, but is certain it wasn't a chain.  Her window had a full view of the tower.  We are out of town at my daughter's swim meet, will be home tomorrow afternoon, and she will look it up in her travel guide if you can wait that long.

I'm bilingual, and can speak fluent French.  I would love to go to France someday (soon).

how about the population. from I have read they DO NOT LIKE US. Read that wait staff make fun of us. Noses in the air about Americans. Sorry, feel the same way about going there as going to the District.

The French do not hate Americans, they just dislike all people who are not from France...
However the people living in Paris are somewhat different, they even speak English!

Great city.  Don't miss Les Invalides...lotsa cool flags from old colonial wars.  Scads of yummy restaurants right outside.

And when the trip is done, you and Matt will always have Paris. It's a very romantic place, IMO.

I've been to Paris four times; on a 1997 visit I stayed at a smallish hotel called Jardins d'Eiffel, just about equidistant from the Eiffel Tower and the Invalides (best Metro station: Latour-Maubourg). It was originally in the British Airways Holidays line-up at a quite reasonable rate but isn't anymore; I checked their rates recently and found they now start at a ghastly $247/night. Very nice hotel all the same, though.
