AFL then a season start in Harrisburg next year.  Best case is a summer upgrade to AAA if he's on fire, more likely though 2012 in Harrisburg/AAA and a call-up in 2013.

That works too. No reason to rush. Our corner outfield spots are pretty full at the moment

The funny thing is that I was just commenting on RBIs there, I like Hood. I see what you're trying to do though, and it's flat out wrong. I have no problem with Hood whatsoever. My post was sarcastic, but the sarcasm was that the RBIs are -worthy.

Your dislike of Martis is actually irrational though.

Hood made a big step this year and I could see an even bigger one next season.  He had one less PA than last year, so comparison is easy.  He maintained or improved in nearly every category.  His doubles were the same, but home runs were up by 8, increasing his SLG by 57 points.  He nearly doubled his walks and cut down on his strikeouts, raising his OBP 31 points.  And he started to show some good speed, improving dramatically on the basepaths (2010 - 5/12 vs 2011 - 21/27).  Throw in 12 outfield assists and the improvement from low A is nearly stunning.  No doubt in my mind that he starts next season at AA.

it was funny to see how much his SB total went up from the last time I posted his updated stats until today with his final numbers.  He really became more aggressive, thanks to coaching and confidence.  and you are right on the money, his walk totals increased dramatically.

I know I have been banging the drum for the FO to make some moves (whether it's free agency or trades), but if we have to package a lot of our key prospects ... I hope he's not one of them.  I really think he's going to be a good one.

i got to watch him a few times at Potomac last year, he just stands out from the rest of the team in terms of size and athleticism.  I wouldn't be surprised to see him in Nats park next September assuming he has a good year in AA and makes it to AAA before September.

a lot of people have said that.  like he has major league build compared to everyone else on the field.

sounds like he's a good kid too who works hard.

If he continues to develop, this would be the one hit on the all the 'toolsy' OF's that Bowden brought in - Maxwell, Dukes, Milledge, etc.

Smoker might still work out as a back end bullpen arm.

True.  There are a handful of guys that worked out.  But it's still a pathetic showing.  Bowden had a couple of years to fix the mess that MLB left and managed to make it worse.

Quote
6. Destin Hood, OF
DOB: 4/3/90
Height/Weight: 6-1/225
Bats/Throws: R/R
Drafted/Signed: 2nd round, 2008, St. Paul's Episcopal HS (AL)
2011 Stats: .276/.364/.445 at High-A (128 G)
Tools Profile: Plenty of them

Year in Review: Among the most athletic players in the system, Hood made great strides in converting his athletic ability into baseball skills.
The Good: A much improved approach was the key to Hood's step forward in 2011. He learned to lay off breaking balls out of the strike zone and did a better job of recognizing pitches he could drive, leaving scouts to believe he can be an average hitter capable of hitting 15-20 home runs annually. He's filled out a bit since signing but remains a plus runner who should steal 15-20 bases annually. He's an average right fielder with a strong arm.
The Bad: Hood is a streaky hitter who can be guilty of tinkering when things go bad. He has plenty of skills, but scouts don't see star-level tools in him, and he'll need to continue hitting to play in an outfield corner.
Ephemera: In a strange split, Hood was a perfect 11-for-11 when stealing a base off a left-handed pitcher but was just 10-for-16 against righties.
Perfect World Projection: Solid, all-around, everyday outfielder.
Fantasy Impact: He could end up being worth more in fantasy leagues due to his power/speed combination.
Path to the Big Leagues: Hood will face a big test at the upper levels by starting 2012 at Double-A Harrisburg.
ETA: 2014
