Hood 2-3, 2 doubles today and a walk.

he's a doubles machine and later in his career it will translate to home run power ... but the walks he's drawing is a really important thing.  have to the love the start he's had.

Repost.

Hood's got the tools to play center field.

Kid was a big time college football recruit for a national power(Alabama) as a wide receiver. That alone tells you he has the athleticism, speed, and ability to track a ball. Range isn't an issue.

Football and baseball are different in terms of getting the ball, but the natural tools are the same. He'll have to learn to read the ball off the bat and how to take the right path to the ball. Those are things that will come with time and coaching.

With that said, I don't know if he ends up in center. He appears to profile as a corner outfielder. I dont know how his arm looks since he has signed, but when he was in high school, he had a weird release, which made his arm seem below average. Im sure they have worked on his throwing mechanics, but I don't think it would uncover a cannon.

I think Hood's upside is that of a Rondell White. He could potentially be a 25/25 guy with range and ability to make the spectacular play, but lacks the arm to profile in right or throw many people out. Remember, Rondell was hampered by the injury bug so he never fully lived up to that potential, but he was still a very solid player. My favorite baseball player of all time actually. Reason Im a National fan.

It's just going to take time. I think Hood's a guy who should play the entire year at Potomac. We don't want to hurt his progress by giving him too much too soon. Hopefully we can get him into the Arizona Fall League on the taxi squad to continue his development on a day to day basis. Next year is when I think we need to start seeing it all come together at Harrisburg.

He's struggling now after such a hot start, but he's putting balls in play.

Still think he ends up with a near .300 AVG by All Star break.

Perez also went 4-4, maybe Hood goes to Harrisburg to make room for that other prospect?

hood has all the potential to be a very good player... kind of reminds me of B.J upton.... maybe more raw power.

I think were stacked in the OF for years to come... one of whom lead by the guy in my avatar.... LOL!

haha

riggleman made a good comment before the game that there's a new age of power hitting, athletic right fielders making their way to stardom ... he mentioned mike stanton, jason heyward and the kid we have in single a (my dad laughed and said hood, but obviously riggs meant harper).

but i agree ... our OF could look very good soon (even with werth and bernadina up with the big league club now)

Yesterday, in assessing team trade needs, Cafardo mentioned  the lack of available RH true corner OFs.  By that he meant power hitters. Hood is still a ways away, but there may be a place for him, if not here then in trade.

i would love to see one day hood / perez / harper (with werth @ 1b) or who knows.  it says a lot that hood is improving tremendously on his biggest weakness from last year (strikeouts vs. walks) and he's doing it in a more advanced class.  the power will be the last to come, but he's hitting some extra base hits in recent weeks.

Destin has a 1.145 OPS in his last 10 games (.350 AVG, 3 HR, 5 2B, 3B, 10 RBI, 2 BB/6 K)

those are better than harper's last 10
