Nice to see Ted is part of the NHL negotiating committee who seems uninterested in actually negotiating. He sure does love the fans!

Unless you're a packers fan, it's safe to assume the owners only care about the fans to the extent they can get them to pay more. The best you can hope for is an owner like Ilitch who is willing to spend to win or an ownership with a 'win and draw in more fans' business plan as opposed to 'revenue sharing + tv dollars is enough" plan

The NY Islanders are moving from Uniondale to Brooklyn.  Wow, the Nassau Colosseum has been an institution in LI for as long as I can remember.  This isn't going to go over well with the Long Island fan-base.

Do they now become the NY Brooklynites?

The Barclays Center is incredibly accessible for anyone, even LI residents. The LIRR goes right to it and there are like 9 subway stops within 3 blocks of it. Shouldn't be any problem.

At least most owners don't act like they are the most "fan-friendly" owner out there.

I was checking the Nets out and found this awhile back:

yeah, but it's in NYC, not Long Island.  If you grew up on LI as I did, you'd understand that this is the equivalent of moving to SFO.  They are the "Islanders," they just moved into Rangers land.  They belong in Nassau or Suffolk.  They've played in Hempstead for 40 years, moving to Brooklyn is going to alienate a lot of their long-time fans.

I know it's still a big deal, but would you rather the team be in Brooklyn or in Kansas City?

They need to rename them immediately.  Dave B suggested the "Brooklyn Beards", which I think is brilliant.  Rolls off the tongue more readily than "skinny jeans", "janitor keys", or "messenger bikes".

And stitch & nag night with $2 PBR should be well attended.

Brooklyn Dodgers?  ;). They announced they weren't going to change their name.  Dumb!

Today's TSN.ca NHL front-page poll (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/) asks people whether they think the Islanders should change their name - right now a tight race with 50.8% in favour and 49.1% against (6222 responses thus far).

No real strong feeling either way myself but I really see nothing wrong with them remaining Islanders - I mean if Utah's NBA team can still be the Jazz 33 years after leaving New Orleans, or the Lakers can still be Lakers 52 years after they left Minneapolis...or a bit closer to home, if Phoenx's NHL franchise can still be Coyotes ('coyote', besides being a type of wild dog indigenous to that part of the USA, is also rather a negative word denoting a labour trafficker)....

I'm sure OC saw this already from the Bumper Boards, but it seems to fit here:

"Islanders" remains completely appropriate given that the Barclays Center is physically located on the piece of land that constitutes Long Island, even if the people in Brooklyn tend not to think of it that way (and yes, I recognize the difference between "Long Island" as a cultural suburban construct versus as a geographic matter). The bigger issue is the use of "New York" on a team that plays in Brooklyn. They've stated that for historical reasons they will keep the same name and logo.

Re: ted negotiating.

He should be in favor of saving the season. Ribero is in the last year of his deal and ovie isn't getting younger. Plus, he needs the bandwagon to keep rolling. Dont give people the opprtunity to get off it

I wonder what this will do to prices.  Upper Caps shoot twice end went up by what, $13/seat since last year?  And that's the STH price.

Hockey fans should conduct an in-arena boycott. Go to the game. Buy nothing at the concessions. Just two games. Let the owners know how you feel.

The prices definitely arent coming down. 13$ in a year? Not my tickets. Doubt they'd slip that past me. That is the one piece of mail I open

It was a pretty healthy increase, but maybe not that much.  I dunno.  As it is purely conjecture at this point anyways, I'm not even going to bother going and looking it up.

I wonder when the Winter Classic will be cancelled.

oh the bandwagon has absolutely stopped rolling.

caps playoff disappointments
+ nationals being awesome now
+ rgIII (most important)
+ wizards still existing

= bandwagon fans have lost interest. the all important sellout streak will end this season.

the sell out streak will end a year after it should because almost the whole arena is sold on a season ticket basis. they'll get a one year grace period during which they can make themselves relevant again.

and i'm not so sure people will tune out because of the skins and nats success. nats fans who experienced the playoff atmosphere might be looking for their live exciting sports fix before next october. that is kinda how i got into united after the caps 2008 playoffs. i couldnt sit idle. i needed a distraction until next hockey season while the nats and their atmosphere blew

the "Coney Islanders" seems pretty obvious.

The draught cups at VC during the Hershey Bears game on 06 Dec are going to be full of all kinds of microbial madness walking dead goo.  I guess there will have been Wiz and Hoyas games, but they all drink vodka/merlots and courvoisier & cokes.  Maybe there will be some jurassic rock show to flush the beer lines out.
