spoprtsnyan is wrong again!

SF's lifetime prediction record on the gameday threads is about like Werth's BA.

We can calculate the odds of that happening and they're not high enough to make it a good idea to bunt, especially with a guy like Espinosa who makes a huge percentage of his outs in the air.  Whether the play "works" or not, it's dumb.  Espinosa could have hit an HR there and we'd be up 4-2.

Fortunately the game isn't played by geeks on calculators. The game is played by men executing on the field.

Bernadina's speed, wow, just coasting those last few steps home.

I wonder how you'd feel about Johnson if he didn't have any orioles connection.

It just had to be said....

i would've liked him.  he's always been a winner.

but yes i grew up a huge orioles fan and he was the manager there during their glory days in the 90s.

And at the end of the day, it was the ninth inning.  You don't bunt Espinosa in the fourth, but you bunt him in the ninth.

Even shoeshineboy and tomterp who both hate bunts would probably have bunted Espinosa there.

What's your point?  It was dumb to bunt with Espinosa.  That the Nats have the lead now does not change that fact in any way.

No.  You should never bunt with Espinosa because Espinosa is too good to bunt with and doesn't create a lot of DPs.  Bunting in that situation gives you a lower chance of scoring a run than you had before.

I don't know about SSB but I know tomterp lives by the BP company line. It's his baseball bible. BTW, where has tomterp been lately? Is he perhaps on vacation?

They're terrible. Angelos has done a wonderful job destroying that franchise.
