Trends:

-Morton has gone 64 1/3 innings since allowing his last home run, a two-out solo shot by Jay Bruce in the ninth inning in his complete game on April 15. It's the third-longest active streak in the Majors behind San Diego's Heath Bell (99 2/3 innings) and Oakland's Joey Devine (76 2/3 innings).

-The Nationals are 10-1 in their last 11 home games.

-The Nationals are 7-0 in their last 7 home games vs teams with a winning record.

-The Nationals are 0-5 in Gorzelanny's last 5 starts.

-The Pirates are 1-9 in Morton's last 10 starts vs the NL East.

-The Nationals are 5-1 in their last 6 Friday games.

-The Pirates are 9-4 in their last 13 Friday games.

-Joel Hanrahan is 23/23 in converting saves this year to go along with a 1.21 ERA and 0.94 WHIP. He has also only given up 1 HR in 37.1 IP.

we should beat charlie morton, i'm just worried about tom gorzelanny.  saturday was the first nationals game i haven't seen live in years; the next day i watched a few innings and gorzo looked like vintage early season gorzo.  i hope he repeats on that performance, but what scares me is we are 3-8 in his 11 starts (his record 2-6).

Nats are 14-7 all-time at home against Pittsburgh (8-4 at Nats Park), losing the home series only twice:

2005 - 3-0
2006 - 2-1
2007 - 1-2
2008 - 3-1
2009 - 1-3
2010 - 3-0
2011 - 1-0 (earlier series)

This is also the latest in the season the Nats have played the Pirates at home.

Wow, Morton got a LOT better.

He changed his mechanics -- dropped his arm slot and completely copied Roy Halladay's motion. It's pretty unreal when you see the mechanics side by side.

Here's a link, since we can't embed videos for whatever reason.

Morton's gotten hit hard in his last few starts and had some unsustainably good luck to start the season, but he's still a far better pitcher than he was last year.  And the Pirates offense has been firing on all cylinders of late.  This is by no means a gimme.

From Evo's twitter:

The Pirates gave Charlie Morton 10 days of rest because they felt his 8.00+ ERA in June was due to loss of arm strength.

He hasn't pitched since June 20th and was awful all June before that. Look for him to own us tonight. :?

I hope we win the series vs. the Buccos! I work with a bunch of Pirate fans and until this year, have had no reason to dislike them as I do every other Pittsburgh team. That is beginning to change... Something tells me that the wife and I will be watching the most recent Harry Potter movie tonight via Netflix sigh... Although that might lead to some hot tub time though...

Agreed.  I want a 3-1 or 4-0 series, and if we get to smash Hanrahack while we're at it, so much the better.

[...]Hanrahack[...]

I've also seen 'GasCanrahan', earlier on when he was struggling.

It makes me really angry that he's doing so well this year.  I'm not sure if it's angry at him, or angry at our own staff, but definitely angry.

I know he was terrible for us, but he's been a really great reliever for the Pirates.  He seems like a good guy, I wish him the best over there.  Just not against us tonight.

Oh right... forgot this was a four-game series.  Uh, well, I hope he never has to pitch because we're up by so much every game.

Isn't Hanrahan the "starting" RP for the NL All-Stars?
