I didn't think they would be great but I thought they would be serviceable.

Did you really expect them to be this historically bad? Rivera going down the gutter because of the WBC was a dagger.

I thought being really bad was more likely than being average.

Look at the "resume" of bullpen pitchers at the beginning of the season.    How could this front office have been even remotely optimistic about it?

Did the WBC erase his ability to keep the ball down and throw strikes?
maybe. supposedly he was throwing all out in March. I mean usually pitchers are just starting to throw at that point. instead he was pitching in games that were equivalent to playoff games in freaking March.

If I were the Nats I would not let a pitcher participate in the WBC ever again. We lost two good relievers because of it (Ayala + Rivera).

i can't wait until Colome comes up. Jesus is going to be our savior of the bullpen.

STFU.  Colome is as big a piece of trash as the others out here.  Clippard and Bergey should be on this team.  Bergey should take Cabrera's place in the rotation.

Some of the guys pitched well at the end of last year.

Joel had a sub 4.00 ERA last year. Rivera had posted a sub 4.00 ERA each of the last two years. Beimel was a reliable addition.

it just all blew up in our face.

I wouldn't let any of my players play in the WBC and Selig can say or do whatever he wants.  It wouldn't happen if I owned a team.

I don't think they can do anything about it.  As I recall, the Nats tried to get MLB to let them nix Ayala from participating in 2006 b/c he was coming off surgery, but MLB told the Nats NFW.

Kensing might be the worst of the whole bunch which is pretty remarkable.

His total '09 numbers (with FLA + WSH): 11 IP 19 H 12 ER 2 HR 8 BB 8 K (0-1, 9.82 ERA, 2.45 WHIP)

In my world, Hanrahan would have started the season in AAA.  I think I coined the combo phrases "Bad Saul" and "Good Saul" in this forum and I would have expected that to continue.  Biemel was available into the spring so no one else thought he had anything left.

because he has done NOTHING to remedy the situation. in fact he has just made it worse by acquiring the likes of Kensing and Tavarez.

looks like my prediction was pretty close :?

because D-Crab will get us into such a large hole that our offense will roll over for Kershaw. I see this as a 9-3 type of loss.

As utterly laughably horrid as this night has been, the *only* bright spot is right now in seeing Joe finally back pitching for us.

no thank you. I hope we never see his stupid ass again. Batting .242 with a .306 SLG PCT in 62 ABs. 0 HRs.

His attitude is also terrible as witnessed in that WPost article from a week or so ago. He got ejected from tonight's game for arguing balls and strikes.

Beimel is the only good thing we have in the bullpen right now.
