A couple of months ago, I upgraded the WNFF server in order to mitigate intermittent performance issues related to many years of site growth and to give the site plenty of room to grow over what will (hopefully) be a very busy next couple of years. While the cost of running this site has never been prohibitive for me, it has grown to the point where it's significant enough to be considered a "bill" - more than a couple of my personal bills, in fact - so I have decided to finally start accepting donations.

Below is a donation widget that I've set up using a system known as "ChipIn", a safe and reliable method that allows you to pay by credit card with confidence. You are free to donate as little or as much as you'd like. This is and always will remain a free site, and contributing is completely voluntary. All donations will be used to pay for hosting costs, domain renewal, server software, and other fees that apply directly to running the site. I will only be accepting enough to fund the site for one year at this time.

I greatly appreciate donations of any amount. Please remember that ChipIn does take out a portion of every donation to cover “transaction costs.” I have not factored these into the donation cap and will cover them myself, along with any cap that goes unfilled. I cannot refund donations! You are not required to donate, so only give what you are willing and able to provide.

Below is a brief explanation of costs:

-Hosting: $69.99/mo - (http://order.1and1.com/VirtualServerXXL)**
-Domain renewal: $5.99/yr

Total: $845.87/yr

I don't like funny numbers so I rounded it up to $850. I guess you can just chalk the extra $4.13 up to all the hours I put into maintenance and upgrades

**If you happen to check the above link, please note that I did not receive the "3 months free" offer as it required a one-year commitment and I didn't want to do that since at the time I couldn't be sure that the specified plan would meet the site's needs. It also allows for more flexibility should changes be required along the way.

edit - tried it on Dolphin and Opera on my Android and it shows up after you click the on-demand plugin button. If you have plugins disabled then it wouldn't show up.

Chief, if I was a 1%er, you would be the ill-shaven begging hobo I wouldn't grab by the battered trench-coat collar and throw off the side of my penthouse balcony.

I'm unfortunately in about the bottom 10% but I'll scrounge something together by March for sure.

Also, the widget progress indicator lags behind actual payments a bit (seems to be anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes), so nobody freak out if it doesn't reflect your donation right away.

I think what you meant to say was, "if the widget progress indicator doesn't reflect your donation right away, something went wrong and you'll have to give again."
