Well that was a little too exciting. Good job not falling apart by Clippard.

Scary collision, but luckily it was shoulder-to-shoulder. WIN!!!! And Lombo gets up smiling, so they must be mostly OK.

Ttry that: bases loaded, nobody out, and it's like Clippard was just warming up.

Been a while since Lombo had a chance to play his position.  Harper called him off.

Pop up on the right field line for the last out.

K'd Ruggi down middle with fastball, popped reyes up on first pitch, then Harper caught a foul ball for final out, colliding with Lombo while he did.

Nice. Glad Reyes bailed Clipp out.

Harper v. Lombo:

Hope the littler rook is OK.

Harper v. Lombo:

(Image removed from quote.)

Hope the littler rook is OK.

I don't like to see the "collision" but I love the hustle.

I did.

But it's not me. It's you. She could wear a baggy "The U" sweatshirt and you'd still groove on her.

You know it's true.

That's right, put it on me.   :)   You're right, she could wear a paper bag and look good.

Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 51st win, each season:

2005 - 5th July (83rd match of season)
2012 - 15th July (86th match)
2011 - 31st July (107th match)
2007 - 5th August (111th match)
2006 - 11th August (115th match)
2010 - 15th August (118th match)
2008 - 30th August (136th match)
2009 - 18th September (147th match)

---

TODAY WITH THE '05 OVERACHIEVERS: Friday 15th July 2005 saw the Nats drop the second of a four-match series at Milwaukee 4-3 in 10 innings, with Mike Stanton balking home the winning run...record now 52-38... http://espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250715108

The 2012 team has moved ahead of the 1925 pennant-winners, who were 51-40, as Walter Johnson suffered a stretch of imperfection, old Roger Peckinpagh began to show his age, although 36 year old Sam Rice still hitting about .350. (Just for grins, I pushed ahead, saw the 1925 Nats about to play Detroit...Ty Cobb hit .378 that year, at 38 years old. Without steroids)  Now 1.5 games back. The 2012 Nats certainly have a record like pennant-winners.

It will be interesting to see when the 2012 team reaches the 2009 team's win total.

Just eight more so it could come soon - thing is though, it'll seem to take forever to catch up to them once we reach win# 53, since the Nightmare Nine Of '09 closed their season with a 7-match winning streak (sweeps of the Mets home and Braves away) to finish with just a bit of dignity. A horrific team all the same though.

In the meantime, we should start closing ground on the '05 Overachievers since with 51 wins this year's edition has now pulled even with the '05 edition's relatively lean second half (in fact the '05 team would not win back-to-backs till early August).

Anyone else think FP was a little short with the two guys who did the post-game interviews?  The two guys asked FP what was going on with Harper's bat & Ozzie and FP said he didn't know anymore than they did and everyone keeps asking him and he wasn't able to talk to anyone on the field, etc.  He seemed a little short-tempered.

Clippard sure made the bottom of the 9th "interesting."  Hope he stays with the more boring finishes.  Glad our two rookies who collided are okay.

Yeah. He was a dick. But he'd had a trying third day with Johnny, so...

I thought it was because when they first threw to him he made a joke and they gave him absolutely nothing. The whole segment was super awkward after that.
