As defined by? There is no statistical data that suggest that Nieves is a superior catcher than Bard.

Oh, you stats geeks are all the same.      Don't you trust your own eyes?

Riggleman must really hate Mike Morse.

I know, right?

he should have gone on the DL months ago.

so you can nag about him being soft and not willing to play hurt? :?

you watch the games don't you? you'd seriously rather have Bard over Nieves as a back-up catcher?

Bard = Nieves.  They are two halves of a whole. Bard is the Bat, Nieves is the glove. personally I'd rather have neither. I'd rather have someone better than both of them.

You act like Nieves is God's Gift to Catching and Bard is the devil incarnate.  but then again that's just par for the course for you and your boyfriends.

A couple of advanced stats from BP:
              Equivalent
              Average             Rate*
Bard        .231                   83
Nieves     .226                  104

* 100 = average defensive catcher.

So slight edge offensively to Bard, but large advantage to Nieves for defense.

Catcher ERA:
Bard: 4.90
Nieves: 5.18

You also have to remember that Nieves catches Lannan most of the time so he gets a slight advantage for that.

Catchers don't pitch, however.

Nieves is a better hitter and that's not even close either.

Bard had one hot month.

Alright, I gotta go.  Someone's gonna have to post the Cubs lineup when it's delivered.  I won't be back, in all likelyhood before the game ends, unless it goes into extras.

 :funny:

we wouldn't even be in this situation if flores could stay healthy.  then instead of rotating two AAAA catchers we rely on one to start and the other to be the backup.  not good.

Wow Livan has the W arm action that causes a pitcher to blow out his elbow. Go figure

Yeah, I noticed that.  Luckily it is not a guarantee that it will blow out the elbow, just that it increases the risk of it happening.  Livian also has that huge frame working in his favor.

I predict that Livan goes 4 1/3 in this start and gets battered.

then his next start he will go 7 2/3 and give up less than 3 runs.

haha. because he will face an offense worse than most AAA lineups in the Padres.

the Cubs should really pwn him tonight. balls should be flying out of the park.
