Yes. They could even order an evacuation and then play the game with no fans

Win!  No debris.  No chop.  Just baseball!

That'd be pretty surreal.

New scenario. Braves win, protest holds, result thrown out.

I'm sure the braves would love having to pay back fans

This is going to get the same kind of press that that Whitesox/Angels strikeout did back in '05 or whenever it was.

I guess knorr. My interpretation of the rules makes me think they do have some leeway to call it an out.

How can you possibly interpret it any other way?  If an infielder travels more distance than he would to catch any possible flyball within the true infield (i.e. not on the outfield grass or outside the foul lines) to get a fly that reaches the outfield, how can you call that a display of "ordinary effort"?

So what does it mean when a game is played under protest? What does the "protest" sign look like?

Apparently, the umpire faces center field and writes a "c" in the air with his finger

I'd like to see this game get tied up and go about 42 innings.

Pitch chipper as a reliever and eventually have the Barves fall.

Would they really have to?  They got to witness about 8 innings of baseball and the fans are the ones causing this rumpus.

Rush the field. Injure both teams. Nats have advantage in the NLDS!

If i had a ticket,  and I was escorted out for something other fans did,  I'd want a refund

If you win the protest, is the game picked up again on another day or is the game win go to the other team?

Picked up from the point of protest.

It doesn't matter when the call is made

"When it seems apparent that a batted ball will be an Infield Fly, the umpire shall immediately declare “Infield Fly” for the benefit of the runners."'

That first part is the important part. It does not have to be made immediately. It has to be made when it becomes apparent that it will be caught in fair ground by an infielder.

I can't think of a single protest that ever got upheld. There must have been one since I started following baseball -- a long time ago -- but so rare I don't remember it.

Wasn't the George Brett pine tar incident protested and eventually upheld?

Did the Royals protest the pine tar game?  I know the Yankees protested the replay.

It wasnt immediately apparent.  The infielder wasnt even under it which is why he gave way to the outfielder!
