Kilgore says Purke will go too.  Only one below AA is allowed, so I'm guessing either Rendon or Purke would be on the taxi squad (can only play Wed. & Sat.)

Scottsdale is stacked.  Somehow Hank Conger is also on that team (I guess he was in AA in early August, but he's been up on the Angels the rest of the year), and the Red Sox are sending one of the better 3B prospects, Will Middlebrooks, as well as Alex Hassan.  Lots of bats in that line up.

It doesn't look like there would be much playing time for Hood.

Some updates from Kilgore:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/nationals-journal/post/arizona-fall-league-washington-nationals-pitching-prospect-matt-purke-will-play-top-draft-pick-anthony-rendon-will-not/2011/10/04/gIQAcd0yKL_blog.html

Purke is playing, Rendon is out and has been replaced by Zach Walters.  The others remains Harper, Solis, Lehman, Norris, and Martin.

Have to imagine that's pretty big news with Purke going and not Rendon. If they aren't taking any chances with a position player like Rendon, then they certainly wouldn't gamble with Purke if he was not 100%. Not only 100% healthy, but 100% he's good with his mechanics as well. Since they want to improve Rendon's mechanics before game experience, they definitely wouldn't throw Purke out there if he wasn't consistent with his mechanics so far.

While it's a bit disappointing for Rendon, it's not a big deal. But I think it's really positive news for Purke.

The first game is set to start in about 5 minutes.  It looks like Harper (in LF) and Norris are starting.

Now Gameday says it's postponed because of rain!  :(  I thought it was dry season in Arizona.

Significant weather advisory for Phoenix, Paradise Valley, Scottsdale, Fountain Hill, Piestewa Peak Park until 7:45PM. At 638 PM MST... National Weather Service meteorologists detected scattered thunderstorms over much of central and northeast Maricopa County. Individual storms were moving to the north at 25 to 30 mph. Wind gusts in excess of 45 mph... hail up to one half inch in diameter... brief heavy rain... and intense cloud to ground lightning will accompany the strongest storms.

He and Strasburg will have some fun together, Harper will make it rain, Strasburg will stop the rain.

I guess there was a haboob between Phoenix and Tucson earlier in the day.  Not sure where they got the moisture for the rain out.

I thought AZ was 3 hours behind us. They don't do Daylight time.

It is interesting that Mike Trout isn't in the lineup.   I have not read anything about the Angels changing their minds, or Trout being injured.
