@kenshadford
The fact that the NYU hospital is dark but Goldman Sachs is well-lit is everything that's wrong with this country.

Guess I'll be renovating again...new ceilings made it just over a year.  First world problems I suppose.

New roof, man?

Only 4 years!!  Maybe 5.  I looked up in the crawl space attic and it seemed to be coming down the side of the chimney, so I'm thinking it's the flashing.    Oh well, beats being down in the sewer...or on the end of a skewer

New roof, man?

Lost power at 9:30pm, border of Falls Church and Arlington near Westmoreland and Sycamore. The big storm earlier this year saw four days before it came back, curious how long it'll take this time.

With my Generac natural gas genny purring in the background, doesn't matter all that much. Best investment ever. I'd have figured after losing power so long at least a couple neighbors would have bitten the bullet, but during a lull earlier I walked around and nada, only house out of fifty plus with lights.

Nothing but boring rain here. Didn't even get that much wind.

Had a lot of wind in E. Loudoun through the night and it's still raining.    A quick look around the neighborhood this morning shows no serious damage.    We didn't even lose power.    During that thing in June/July, we were out for 5 days.   I'll take the dog out for a long walk this afternoon to get a wider look.    We were lucky in this neighborhood.

PS   Keep in mind, some of these big trees can still tumble with the soacked ground around them.    Stay alert and be safe.

We are extremely lucky. Power, internet, and cable all running strong. Stay warm and dry, folks.

Still have power and internet -- this never happens. No trees down that I can see, either. Very blessed so far.

No power, no interwebz, and, most importantly, no CPAP so no sleep. That the terrorist hotel across the street has power is just a humiliating kick in the crotch.  Still, my phone was charged so I can annoy you people until it dies.

Do some work.  That will put you to sleep sitting up instantly!  ;). Just kidding dude!  Hope you get your power back soon

Huge fire in Breezy Point, New York: http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/massive-fire-blazing-breezy-point-queens-article-1.1194958

My aunt lives about three blocks from where it was supposedly centered. We haven't heard from her, no idea whether her house survived. In a way, I hope she doesn't know, as that would mean she had evacuated. It's a sick irony to see a huge fire blazing in a flooded neighborhood.

I'm relieved that the roof on my house is intact as far as I can tell (bit hard to see the back side through some trees). I always worry about it since I know the time for replacement is coming. No trees down on my block, no cars damaged, no power outages.

....BUT my wife's firm announced they're open at 10:00 today and that everyone is expected to be there. Idiotic. They're located at the Watergate office building. Ms1995hoo plans to drive to work....makes me rather uncomfortable given the location. She normally goes over Memorial Bridge and loops around back under the bridge on the DC side. I think I may insist she take 23 Street today because the river is running so high.

That's wise, also make sure she brings home some cake from Watergate Pastry :az: Why can't they just close the building and enforce telework like most of the private firms are doing?

If I answer that question I might get banned for making highly offensive comments. Aside from that theory, your guess is as good as mine. It's idiotic because most of the attorneys in her office WILL telecommute, which means they really don't need much, if any, support staff in the office.

But they brag about never closing if it can be avoided.

The college I went to in central new york had a thing about having never closed except for kennedy's assassination - what they didn't say was that a fresh foot of snow was enough to make most professors cancel classes. I never trust that we never close crap- either there's a caveat, or they're morons

Most of the generators I've heard are so loud that going without power would be preferable to having to subject one's eardrums to that assault.
