On a serious note, I am genuinely concerned about what we saw from LaRoche and Werth today.
I know I said it before but it bears repeating - LaRoche is done but they'll keep trotting him out there.  As far as Werthless goes:

He had a key walk yesterday and saved an error for that SS with a great  :mitt:

If team can't hit :'( you just go with the best D you can   :money:

Werth didn't look bad.  LaRoche looked awful.

Morse should help.  Both Desmond and Espinosa did OK getting on base.  If Zim's first long fly ball went out yesterday, I think people would feel a lot better about the offense today - I think it happened in the first inning with Desmond and Espinosa on base.

I can see some signs of a better offense this year.  If LaRoche can't get his act together, both Tracy and DeRosa look like they'd be able to hit OK.  And, of course, Harper will be coming up at some point.

Werth didn't look bad.

Werth looks like he stands to far off the plate    (He can't reach the outside corner)
Yesterday in his last at bat it looked like he moved in and the next pitch was inside

Then he moved back outside  :panic:  (but he did walk)

This.

Werth needs to be more aggressive early in the count. He can't let pitchers pipe strike one two him all year long like he did last year.

Hopefully DeRosa or Tracy go crazy while Morse is out and he gets the start at 1st (w/ DeRosa in LF) or LF (with Tracy at 1st). I guareentee we would have scored more runs with Morse in the cleanup spot.

I just really hope LaRoche getting paid what he's getting paid isn't an impetus for him starting.  I know I'm wrong on that but I'd like to believe otherwise.

This is not the case for Lannan (or Gorzelanny or Maya, for that matter).

Maya and Lannan are in the minors and the Gorz® is in the bullpen.  Big difference than being the clean-up hitter.

That's kind of my point.  Maya and Lannan are getting millions and were still sent to the minors.  Gorzelanny is getting millions to be the long relief guy.

Davey likes a set line up. He said so when he was hired. You put LaRoche in the 4 hole until Morse returns, then he slides into the 6 spot (DeRosa).

This is the first candidate of '12 and it doesn't matter what happens in the 9th.  They were COMPLETELY overmatched by Jeff Samardzija.

I agree. This was pathetic. 0 hits from our outfield. None. Nadda.

But at least Morse will fix that.

Today is a good candidate- pretty anemic - yuck

But I think you gotta tip your cap to Samardzjia, he was really good, high 90s, threw strikes all day. Pretty good outing for him I thought.

Still, we won our opening series on the road, I think that's fantastic.
