Drinking these tonight.  After sticking primarily with IPAs and other pale ales for a while I'm swinging back to pilsners.  This picture doesn't have it, but the bottle now feature pull tab caps, I've never seen them before, reminds me of the old days of pull tab cans when guys used to drop the tabs in their beers and then cut their tongues.

Lagers and ales describe the types of yeast, pilsner the combination of hops and malt, it's usually a refreshing lighter beer

Miller lite claims to be a pilsner but it sucks. If you want to try one: victory prima pils, oskar blues mama's lil yella pils, lagunitas pils. Red hook also sells one at harris teeter. Had it once but I think the others are better

How well does Pilsner Urquell stack up?  I like that stuff.

Is Spaten Optimator still sold in the US?  I haven't seen it in ages.

The local Harris Teeter sells it

Victory is very good (as is the sometimes forgotten in plain sight Heineken), but Pilsner Urquell sets the standard.

I love czech beer and I've had pilsner urquell fresh and it's damn good, but with the clear bottles, by the time you get it, it isn't fresh

Haven't noticed that but I don't doubt it.  In my post college days we used to buy it by the keg.

I haven't really looked- I usually try to go either local or stronger when I go out- pilsner is more of a back yard or pool beer to me. I've had it on tap in the past (I was lucky enough to study abroad in Prague before the Czech republic joined the eu and Ryan air started delivering drunken Brits), and I love it- the clear bottles just make it never taste right to me.

I know it's on tap at the Greene Turtle in Arlington/Balston

I need to find that (I guess look harder)

On a side note Abita is on it's way to becoming my favorite brewery- if you haven't tried purple haze, it's a really nice refreshing beer

I actually wasn't blown away by Purple Haze.  Pyramid Apricot is still my go-to for fruit/wheat beers.

I don't know, I thought it was one of Camron's better albums.

They used to sell it in cans at my local Harris Teeter but they discontinued it a while back.  Now the only time I see it is at the Scoreboard Walk at Nats Park.

It is (or recently was) still at the Adams Morgan 'Teet, so it appears to still be on the market.  Hope it stays that way, I love those cans.  They were even in Tom Stoppard's play "Rock & Roll" at Studio Theatre.
