Chris Marrero and his season so far
« Topic Start: April 30, 2008, 11:13:33 AM »
Are you a bit worried about how Marrero is hitting the bat so far? He was doing decent in the Carolina league last year, I hope he bounces back untill the end of the season but it isn't looking good for him so far. Also, Detwiler could do much better but his last outing wasn't that bad, lets hope he bounces back too.

He's 19 and and about 4 years younger than the league average.

Too early to get worries about either.  The natural thing is to believe that they will dominate their leagues and get promoted as quickly as R.Zimmermann, but Z is the exception and it rarely happens.  The important this is to keep patient, and place them on the right team until it becomes painfully obvious not to wait any more.

Well duh!  I don't see how Marrero can be 1, 2, and 3 on our top prospects list!

Translation:

Chris Marrero may not be one of the Nationals' top three prospects come 2009.

from Nats Journal:

Including a 2-run homer this afternoon at Myrtle Beach (Braves), 1B Chris Marrero has hit 3 home runs in his last 5 games after going homerless in 17 straight contests...he is 9-for-21 (.428) with 3 homers and 8 RBI in those 5 contests...Marrero, Washington's 2006 first round pick (15th overall), is hitting .245 with 5 home runs, 16 RBI and a team-leading 15 walks in 29 games.

Just shows how quickly guys can turn it around.

I still think Burgess will end up being the better player down the line, but both should be Nats for a LONG time.
