Crystal City - Here I come
« Topic Start: August 16, 2011, 10:42:41 AM »
So, finally pulled the trigger and reserved an apartment in Crystal City.  Should know tomorrow if it's approved or not.  Looking forward to not having to drive everywhere and a 20+ mile one-way commute every day.

Did we ever find out what JCA stood for?

I don't know what Crystal City is but it sounds cool and it also sounds like a major improvement for you so  and

Two Metrorail stations away...it's right on the Blue/Yellow lines. Getting to/from Nats Park shouldn't be too bad (but change at Archives rather than L'Enfant for the Green line - less hassle).

Yeah, after five years of being a hermit out in the burbs it's time to move back to civilization and embrace the honky yuppie culture.  Now all I have to do is get these damn player haters to dig the programming examples I sent and hire my azz.  They need to recognize my mad 187 skillz.

Burke.  Great place if you have kids.  We don't so we're moving.

Are outer suburbs really all that great for kids?  I mean the Fairfax school system sounds like delinquency central.

Burke isn't that far out though if you work at the Pentagon (everyone around us is military).  I don't have any kids (schoolage or not) but the schools here are *supposed* to be really good.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to not dealing with a long azz commute every day and catching a Nats game being an all day deal.  Viva la freedom!

So now you're going to live like a hermit underground?

Well, for the richest county in the country, it sure does have a hell of a lot of oxycontin, smack, and meth (according to a high school administrator a friend was dating).  You expect crap to happen at Ballou and Eastern High (where most of the kids are raised in poverty by their grandmother), but Fairfax?  Kids must be bored out of their gourds.
Umm... compared to what?

I think I'd be willing to put the Fairfax school system up against any of the rest of them in the area.

It's newsworthy when it happens in Fairfax,  expected in DC.

Let's get back to talking about how awesome not spending 2 hours a day in a car will be.  Let's just hope my next job isn't in Vienna. :hang:

Didn't gore's kid get caught with drugs at st albans school? Half the boarding schools on the east coast are full of coke heads.

This. Bored rich kids will do drugs, that's not a reflection on the quality of schools.
