If we had a decent ownership group it wouldn't be a question of a bat or an arm.

Yeah. Pretty much all that needs to be said.

This. Cheapness comes back to haunt us every time.

Agree. Moore should play in LF.

Yeah I'd put Moore there.  At least put Ankiel or Bernie who field well even if they can't hit and have some speed on the basepaths.  But Nady hasn't shown that he can do anything well.

Agreed...what's the point in trotting Nady out there every day.  Might as well put the rookie in.  At least he has a much more potential.  He can't be worse.

None of last year's playoff teams scored fewer than 700 runs in the regular season.  We are currently on pace to score 540.  Obviously continued contribution from Harper combined with the return of Zimmerman and Morse would accelerate the pace, but the team would need to increase their R/G by 1.16 starting tonight in order to reach 700 runs by the end of the season.

For some reason I don't see Morse playing more than 50 games this year. :(

2007 actually finishes almost 50 runs ahead of 2011.  Last year's 624 RS is the worst since the team came to DC.  Depending on how Harper does long-term and how long we're without RZ and Morse, I think this year's team has a real shot at "beating" that record.  700 runs is a pipe dream, IMO, but I'm sure some will say otherwise.

Still, the extra wildcard this year will lower the bar.

And we're guaranteed at least 1 more game there since the 07 team lost game 25 1-0

What about the Giants when they wont he World Series?  If I recall they had a very weak hitting team until Posey got the call up.

697 runs. Which, as it turns out... is the most runs they've scored in the past seven years.

Well then...there goes my theory!  Like others said...when Zimm comes back and Morse gets in you will see the offense pick up significantly.  Other guys (LaRoche/Werth) will start seeing better pitches because they won't want to pitch to Zimm, Morse, or Harper.

From June 1 onward, RZ and Morse combined for 116 RBI last year.  Given that last year's team was fairly comparable to this year's team in terms of OBP, I'd say that's a good "fuzzy math" starting point.
