Anyone read them?

I want to start, but don't know where to begin... there's just so many of them.

What do you like to read?  There are a TON of great graphic novels that have come out over the past 15 year.  Here's a short list of my favorites:

The Punisher (Garth Ennis Marvel Max series)
Powers
Walking Dead (the show is a total turd)
Blankets
Black Hole
Maus
From Hell
Preacher
Arkham Asylum
The Boys

All great places to start.

+1.  This is the only comic strip I have ever read with any regularity.

Unfortunately the one thing I don't like about Batman is that I enjoy his rogues gallery more than I do Batman, himself.

Then check out "The Killing Joke" and "The Joker".  Those two are really good for GN in the Batman universe not featuring Batman.

This is something really, really, really good but an acquired taste:

Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" is one of my favorite Batman centered ones.  Miller has a lot of good stuff out, though he has a handful of awful works too.  I enjoyed a lot of his Sin City graphic novels, but Ronin and Dark Knight Returns are my two favorites of his.

Anything with Alan Moore is good in my book.  The two most known, due to the movies, are Watchmen and V For Vendetta.  The graphic novels are infinitely better in my opinion, but much like books it is extremely rare for the movies to be close to their graphic sources.  As MDS mentioned, From Hell is fantastic as well.

Other names that MDS which I can confirm are indeed awesome are Maus, Blankets, and Preacher.  I used to subscribe to a few monthlies when I was a teenager like XMen and Spider Man, but nowadays Walking Dead is the only monthly I receive.  Walking Dead is probably one of my all-time favorites, more specifically the first 40 or so issues (then it starts to drag a bit).

With the last year a friend got me into two other series which I have enjoyed a ton:  Y:The Last Man and Fables.  Y:The Last Man is basically an apocalyptic story about all the men in the world dying except for one dude.  Fables is a retelling of many stories you may know from when you were a kid, kind of hard to explain, but it is a neat little series.

Another great series to check out would be DC's Sandman.  Awesome.

I read Scott Pilgrim, and I'm reading Walking Dead and I got halfway through Watchmen. I also started with Batwing, which is pretty good (African Batman).  I also want to read the Amory Wars (Coheed and Cambria based comics).

Comixology is going to bankrupt me.

Dark Night Returns whips a camel's ass with a belt. The Cult is good too.

I've never read a "graphic novel" but I think I might be sometime tomorrow depending on what's I. The mystery box ups is scheduled to deliver.

Like Far Side a lot too.

Have a friend who said she'd get me the C&H collection as a wedding gift. Maybe I should get more serious about finding a wife...

I got that for a Christmas present from my wife the year it was released (my wife is awesome).  I've only opened it a couple of times because I don't want to ruin it.  I still have all the old paperbacks and read them frequently.  In  fact, my eight year old recently started reading "Yukon Ho!" and I catch him laughing every once in a while.

If I teach him nothing else I feel like a complete success as a father.
