17 whole pages last season.

I am looking forward to the draft. I watched a ton of college basketball this past year, which makes the draft more fun.

This is a serious question  ...  Are there any HS phenoms out there in the sense of a L. James and not a Kwame Brown?

I'm pasting Old Chelsea's post in the locked thread here -

-----------
Actually it's even worse - since their title-defence season of 1978-79 when they went 54-28, they have hit the 45-win mark only once - in the 2004-05 season, when the Wizards went 45-37 and beat the Bulls in the first round for their first playoff series win in 23 years, inaugurating an era (2004-08) that I call 'The False Spring': http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/WAS/
-------

This isn't even a good reflection of how bad they've been at times.  They've won 26 or fewer games 7 times since the '98/'99 season.  So 7 out of 14 seasons, they've had a winning percentage of .317 or less.

In baseball, a .317 winning percentage would equate to a 51 win season.

HSers can't declare for the draft anymore. You have to be one year removed from HS to be eligible.

Anthony Davis is a stud, but he's going #1. With the trade for Okafor and Ariza, the Wizards appear loaded up front. That seems to make Brad Beal the clearcut selection at #3, to fill in at the 2 next to Wall. Washington may have played their hand too early though, as Cleveland is trying to move up from #4 to #2 to select Beal. It looks like the Wizards will be selecting Beal, a 2 guard or from SF Michael Kidd-Gilchrist or SF Harrison Barnes. Barnes has a better blend of skills but Kidd-Gilchrist is a no nonsense kind of guy that goes 100mph all the time, and that leadership makes him intriguing. Id be happy to land any of the trio but with Ariza and Singleton at the 3, Beal makes the most sense.

Nice breakdown. I don't know basketball that well but I watch a lot of college. If not Beal (ugh, hate the Gators) then give me MKG. Barnes looked really bad in the tourney.

Harden looked like crap in the tournament a few years ago.  He's a really good player now.

I'm no basketball scout, but I don't see the appeal with MKG.  If he didn't play on Kentucky, I don't think he'd be nearly as hyped.

harden also sucked in the last four games of this tournament, but I agree on MKG- I'd go with Barnes, but that's just me

I didn't forget Vesely, I just think he's more of a 4 in the NBA. He's one of the reasons I didnt mention Thomas Robinson - you guys are loaded at the 4/5.

I don't think Kidd-Gilchrist is going to be a1 or 2 option on offense but should be a solid #3. I think he's a more athletic Ron Artest, without the issues. He's a beast defensively an his ability on that side of the floor can really elevate a teams overall defense. Had you not acquired Ariza, I did think he was the best fit for you guys. With a scoring PG, having a 3 that can impact the game without the ball would be huge. He can probably play the 2 for you if Beal is gone but is more of a true 3 IMO. In general, I think Barnes has more upside. If you need more of a scorer, go Barnes. But Kidd-Gilchrist is probably the safest pick in he draft and is a very solid selection.

litesning to the radio, they had an interesting debate - in his tenure here, has ernie  ever made a good draft pick? Wall is arguable, but he hasn't really hit on any other pick. even with wall, he's never drafted an all star

I like Beal but I don't see how they're going to slot him into the lineup. I guess, we're going to play a 3 guard, 2 forward set up?

I'm looking forward to see Kendall Marshall play next year. I went to highschool with him and I think he could a potential all-star if he gets the playing time.

Crawford will probably be our sixth man.

Crawford probably fits wells instant offense off the bench. He's explosive but inconsistent. You can ride him when he's hot, but he'll have some terrible games where he'll kill you. If he comes in and is terrible, you can limit his time. If he comes in on fire, ride him as long as you can.

They finally have some legit NBA starters - Nene, Okafor, and Wall are starting caliber players and solid professionals unlike what they had last year - McGee, Nick Young, and Blatche.  Ariza is not very good and Beal is a rookie so they may struggle on the perimeter.  But they should improve significantly from last year.

RD - I agree about Crawford.  Kind like Juan Dixon - he's not really a starter but he can win some games for you if his jumper is falling.

I think they should be around 35 wins.  If Wall is a lot better than last year or Beal turns out really good, they could be better than that.

Nick Young was solid for the clippers in the playoffs, McGhee is a joke, but far from ernie's biggest whiff, the problem last year will hurt them this year - they're a team of role players with a solid starter or two devoid of stars in a star driven league and lacking the kind of coaching that can sometimes overcome that

Not really sold on Nash to the Lakers. Kobe, like Jordan, is the teams facilitator. It'll be interesting to see two ball dominant guards and see how they can fit together. And if its possible, the Lakers just got even worse defensively against quick point guards.

I understand the point of the move - it was either this or essentially nothing. They have nothing in free agency to offer so trading picks and the exception was their only opportunity. Id rather have Steve Nash than not. But, hes as ball dominant a PG in the league as there is, and he's with as big of a ball dominating SG as their is in the league. Something's got to give, and how that effects each players game will be in question IMO.
