With the exception of the absolute debut in 2005 and the Nats Park opener (ESPN Sunday Night Baseball) in 2008, every Nats home opener has started in the afternoon:

2005 - Thursday 14th April vs Diamondbacks - 19.05
2006 - Tuesday 11th April vs Mets - 13.05
2007 - Monday 2nd April vs Marlins - 13.05
2008 - Sunday 30th March vs Braves - 20.05
2009 - Monday 13th April vs Phillies - 15.05
2010 - Monday 5th April vs Phillies - 13.05
2011 - Thursday 31st March vs Braves - 13.05
2012 - Thursday 12th April vs Reds - 13.05

...and you bloody well bet I'll be there for the ninth home opener whatever the weather - if it's going to be cold I'll just break out my old Expos sweatshirt. (Thing is though, what are they going to run out of this time along about the fourth inning...hot dog buns? straws? beer cups? bottled water? patience?)

UH, 20.05 is 8:05pm last time I checked!  I think it's considered a night game!

And yeah you have to shiver and shake and wait for a Zimmerman Walk Off!

He made note of that...

I know the Opening Day game for the Braves is at 7:10 on the first. I'll probably be going for two reasons.

1.) Never been to an opening day game before
2.) Ryne Sandberg is the 3rd base coach for the phillies so I'm gonna try and get my 84 throwback sandberg jersey signed.

Uh, he referred to the Nationals Park opener in 2008 as an evening start.  Uh, uh, uh.......

Oh, how novel, a preseason exhibition game against a big AL East team!

Nats vs Yankees Friday, March 29 @ 2:05 pm.

Is that at Nats park? That would be a fun trip but I hope that the cold weather and game time combo would bring down the ticket prices, in which case I'd go.

You won't have a problem getting cheap tickets regardless of the weather.  The Yanks will draw a decent crowd but not that many people are willing to take a day off work for a practice game, particularly when most of us are taking off the following Monday for opening day.

Yeah, the time inconvenient. Thankfully I'm free at 2PM on Fridays.

Good Friday afternoon, too, which will cause some people not to attend.

I know the Opening Day game for the Braves is at 7:10 on the first.

Has this been confirmed by anyone?

I'm not that confident with that. They might have just posted the standard time for night games at Nats Park.

My supervisor already knows that Opening Day is a religious holiday for me and that I WILL be taking it off, no matter what.  I put in my OD leave request the instant the schedule in announced in Fall.   :mg:

Reminiscing - Getting to 2008's OD was a bit rough for me - I'd just had a rather nasty chemotherapy treatment 5 days prior and was feeling miserable.  Plus I was bald cuz all my hair had fallen out, and it was cold cold cold.  But there was no way I was going to miss that first game at Nats Park, so I bundled up my little bald head as best I could and got there.  I was so weak and fatigued that I almost passed out waiting in the long security line to get in - remember POTUS was throwing out the first pitch so with all the high security the lines were terribly long.  But we got in just in time!  Sadly, I was way too nauseated to have a beer or a dog or other ballpark food, so I brought in a little container of plain white rice to eat - the only food I could tolerate.  And still I had a fabulous time.  If I could make it to OD that year and have a good time, then you'd better believe I plan on being at every OD I can.   There's nothing like it.

It's opening day for the Braves, not the Nats. The Braves are playing the Phillies.

I take it the treatments were successful and you're feeling better these days? That's wonderful news ...

WPA - thanks for asking!  Yes, so far so good - no evidence of disease.  2008 was miserable for the Nats and for me - 2012 was much better for both of us.  If they go south this year, I'm gonna start worrying . . .
