Obviously any organization that hires the likes of Phil Wood has incompetent hiring practices.

It's amazing how many times that thought entered people's minds and came out of their mouths today. The problem is that they don't plan. It seems clear they hire the cheapest people they can find at the last minute.

When I made it up to the Loft early, there was poor 1995hoo begging for a beer, of which they had plenty.....but no cups.  They had no cups with which to serve any beverage at all.

Is it just me, or does it seem like they showed up on Tuesday to get things ready?

Isn't a sold out game a good day to have all your concession stands open?

Or you know, to actually make sure your soda machines have carbonation in them... before you open the concession stands?!?

You really think players never gets tips from the dugout based on scouting reports and their own abilities/limitations?

Of course they do.

Your point was that Dunn could be positioned differently. When I say I'd prefer the veteran's instinct on positioning as well, you point out that positioning could be decided from the dugout. So... I'm not sure where we're going with this.

Players also move after the start of delivery based on pitch selection, btw.

My point is that LaRoche made a great play but he was only in a position that forced him to make that play BECAUSE he has the ability to make said play.  I seriously doubt Dunn would've been playing as close to the bag.

Also my point is that no one has an alternate reality machine, so people should stop assuming that they know what would've happened in Rizzo-actually-did-sign-Dunn universe ;)

FP says at the top of the 9th, "I like the match-ups for the Nationals here"

LaRoche over powered plop-up to leftfield line
Morse K's on up and in fastball
Ankiel K's on called back door slider

Not today but I like the enthusiasm

Yeah, honestly, it was scripted okay for us in the late innings. We got Lowe out of the game, we had our top of the order coming up in the 8th and 4-5-6 in the 9th. They just didn't come through.

Why is Pudge still playing? :?

Why didn't Riggleman pinch hit for Ankiel in the 7th to lead off the inning with a lefty on the mound? That was the move by Riggs I was most confounded by.

I think he was trusting the player and not the stats.

the venters/kimbral 1-2 are pretty darn scary, hopefully gonzales treats them like Torre treated his relievers.

Kimbrel struggled during the Spring which was why he wasn't officially named the closer.

Of course our hitters in the 9th look scared to death at the plate and completely helpless.

I was shocked with how bad some of our ABs were today. Guys taking fastballs down the middle for strike 3 multiple times. Very few hard hit balls all game. Desmond looked nervous and very shaky.

He probably was.  He hasn't had a lot of time at the top of the lineup and to have to jump in there on opening day would be a tough situation for anyone.

I think something that's being over looked here was that Lowe was really good today.  He had as much movement on his pitches as I can remember him having in a long time.  It's not like he was throwing straight cheese down the middle that they were taking.  He was throwing some nasty stuff and he deserves as much credit for that as anyone.

Lowe wasn't bad but to get shut out on Opening Day in front of your home crowd is laughable.

All LaRoche needed was a fly ball in the 1st to score a run and he failed miserably.

Our big guns had a few chances to bust the game open and couldn't produce. Where was the long ball?
