No need to rush him. Leave him in Syracuse for a decade or so.

Good call.

We can fatten him up with salt potatoes and hoffman franks.

I don't know what those things are.

Rizzo with the definitive, indisputable verdict in regards to Bryce's so called "Character issues", courtesy of Kilgore at Nats Journal:

Via Federal Baseball - post pick press conference:

Quote
Mike Rizzo: "The Nationals are very, very pleased to announce the first pick on the 2010 Draft is outfielder Bryce Harper from the College of Southern Nevada. We've scouted Bryce very, very thoroughly throughout the last couple of years, these two guys on the sides of me here were instrumental in putting the board together and we're very proud and pleased that this particular player is going to become a part of the Washington Nationals' family."

Quote
Roy Clark: "Like Mike said, we've been scouting him extensively, we think he's got a chance to be a special type player on the field and special person off the field. We are delighted to have selected him with the first pick in the 2010 Draft, but from this point forward, we would like to pick 30th every year and not [number] one.
"

Quote
Kris Kline: "I got to see Bryce play probably 20 games total including the fall, probably about 80 at bats, so we have a real high comfort level with what type of player he is, what type of player we think he's going to be. I think we feel that this is the only bat in this Draft that has the potential to be a three-hole hitter, and of course you know, hitting from the left side only adds to the value, so, he's a very special player, brings a lot to the table, and I think you guys are really going to enjoy seeing this kid playing in a couple of years."

Wally Joyner was on MLB Network last night and I was looking around for some info about him and discovered that he's a Mormon.  I also discovered that Bryce Harper is a Mormon (thank you, Wikipedia).

Bryce Harper isn't listed among Famous Mormons in various famous Mormons websites/wikis.

Is Wikipedia wrong?  Or is Scott Boras keeping Bryce's Mormonism on the downlow?

The plan all along was to draft Harper, move him to right field and have him playing behind Strasburg and Zimmerman by 2013.

Danny Ainge.  Now there was a glove-first, no hit corner infielder!

Bryce Harper was asked about not being allowed to wear the Eyeblack Warpaint in the Pros:

Quote
"That's totally fine. I wasn't going to bring that to major leagues, anyway. I didn't wear it with Team USA. That's part of the game."

now hopefully people will STFU about it.

He was also another former Syracuse Chief! Hit .237 in 785 AB from 1978-1980... "Now you know, and knowing is half the battle." This PSA brought to you jointly by Syracuse Chiefs fans & G.I. Joe.

Everyone seems optimistic that we'll sign him before August, but I think we've heard that before.  Still, Rizzo and Boras are pretty close now.
