I've noticed that when he overthrows the ball from the beginning, he usually can't locate his pitches at all. When his fastball is around 89-90, that's when he pitches well. Weird.
I noticed this same problem when I was at his last start. He was sitting around 92 MPH and damn was he struggling. Probably just overthrowing like you suggest.
